BM is my favorite subgenre too. I think when atmospheric BM is done well, it can be really exhilarating. (ie Ulver, Burzum, Paysage d'Hiver... etc.)

Black & doom really are the top tier of metal
As a fan of black metal and metal in general, I feel there is this mystical aura to the genre that no mainstream music can provide. Whether it is a straightforward Scandinavian black metal, or black / death fusion from the likes of Archgoat, Embrace of Thorns, Temple Nightside etc, you certainly don't get that much of a kick with other popular mainstream genres.
