So, I've heard Mirror and Hanging On, both of these are really nifty tracks but I have a bit of complaining to do. Firstly, I feel you sometimes lose a beat on a track. Especially on Mirror where I believe some parts of the track aren't connected all that well together. Maybe it's just me but I feel that beat is sometimes slowed down mechanically which makes a bit unsave. On Hanging On you could lower your instruments a bit down, yeah, it's a shitty complain but whatever. Of course I can be harsh on your vocal performance - it isn't all that bad but I don't feel "fire" in them. Maybe it should be this way, I don't know. Either way you put up a hell a good work. Try to focus more on mixing next time and don't feel down because of my shitty arguments. It's a good work, well done. Especially for a first album and stuff.

>>61340758
I'm sorry I feel it's a bit generic. I don't know why but each anon that puts up house or deep house or whatever essentially sounds the same over and over... Iron doesn't evolve all that well, it's slow and inconsistent, I don't feel anything deep in it and/or progressive. It would be cool for a party extravaganza for sure but as a total nerd who read books all the time I don't get it. I believe you could do more grander sound or at least more hard-hitting tracks. But it's too weak to be hit by it and too repetitive to give me much joy

Thanks for the feedback, It's greatly appreciated. I initially went into this music project of mine not knowing what the hell I was doing. I was in a band beforehand and they dropped out on me before we all could record anything. We had several shows and had booked dates in a tiny local studio. I don't blame your distaste for the vocals honestly, I have a bad voice. I did have a lead singer, but he totally refused to do any recording. The drum issue is because when my band dissolved, I was left with all the equipment, so I am a mediocre drummer haha, but I tried my best. I was only seventeen when I recorded all that stuff. I feel that my tracks Hallowed Buried thoughts and Mediocrity knows best are my best tracks on the EP because those were the last I recorded and put the most effort into mixing. I did the entire album on Audacity, and originally on Reel to Reel machines so that might account for some mixing errors. I had no mixers at the time and had to do it all digitally from the tape transferred to WAV. I am working on a new project and have a better knowledge of what I'm doing, mixing and singing wise so I guess I got that. haha

for some of my newer tracks if you're interested

This is a ridiculous generalization especially given that you gave the same "not 4 me" stupidity to guy who makes really nice R&B, experimental psychedelic group, shoegaze musician and an bunch of anons who do their ambient stuff differently. You seem like a "le wrong generation" type. Poor, untalented younggins who can't play their instruments right so they just play drones. Of course it might not have anything to do with the fact that they genuinely might enjoy ambient or drone music.

I'd rather listen to hours of harsh noise than your shitty, generic folk rock and I hate noise music.
>>
>>61342059
If anyone would like a specific critique, they should feel free to ask for it. We're all posting our stuff on here just to have it heard, correct? Yes, I generalized. It just so happens that multiple people have posted links to drone tracks that are 8+ minutes in length, including you.

>>61342093
> Poor, untalented younggins who can't play their instruments right so they just play drones
You said those things, not me. I don't like drones or ambient tracks, personally. I find them to be lazy, uninteresting, tiring. I also don't care if people don't like my music, but it's just ridiculous to say that one person holding chords for minutes on end is the same thing as one person playing every instrument in a band and writing structured songs with lyrics.

So... why not just let go then? Why waste your time copying the same message over and over again on your post? I see no point in that rather than as an ego boost of some kind. Also, I would suggest not generalizing other musicians just because you saw one or two ambient peeps doing the music they love to do. Sure, you may hear my tracks as an 8+ minute drone (which they aren't, my last album was build on usage of modified woodwind instruments in various forms of technique) but I'd might argue that any stuff by Abelian, for example, isn't the same sort of stuff to mine or any others so I wouldn't say putting them in a same "not 4 me" scenario. Maybe you should just... let go, you know? Not making shitty assumptions just to show them off to the BC thread. It ruins a small, fragile community in it out of itself. Just enjoy things you like, critique if you want but don't make yourself a dick just for having said "It's not for me so it sucks". Keep that opinion to yourself if you're not explaining or expanding on it in any matter.

Okay, next time I'll just post a link to my bandcamp and not listen through the other artists at all.

I tend not to post on /mu/ because this "small, fragile community" you speak of tends to be, in reality, a fairly elitist and exclusive hivemind.
>>
>>61342209
The same characteristics you described ambient as can be turned back on what you play. Plenty of ambient musicians out there put in effort into their compositions. Not all ambient is made the same. I use guitar and feedback tape loops, others use synths or field recordings. It seems woefully ignorant to simply generalize all ambient as being lazy when laziness is found in almost all genres and styles of music.

Just because you can write songs and play a bunch of instruments does not make you inherently better than another musician who is equally as proficient in their style. People like different things and just because you don't like something, it does not make the people who play or like a different kind of music any less than you.
>>
>>61342496

Good, don't come back. /mu/ is elitist at heart
>>
>>61342496
Why are you such an asshole?
>>
>>61342496
then why you post it today? Did you believed that it would be different. silly you...
>>
>>61342500

>Plenty of ambient musicians out there put in effort into their compositions. Not all ambient is made the same.

Very true, but it's still not the same thing. A great many of these people making ambient music simply do not understand how to play even a single instrument. Give them an Axiom 49 and Reason for an hour and they'll whip you up the droniest drone you could ever drone, but they wouldn't know where to start with a real piano. In fact, they might even look down on people that play "real instruments".

Ambient/drone stuff gives me the same feelings that modern dance does. Sure, there might be months of work going into the choreography, but it's so vague and formless that it comes full circle to be generic, and the underlying meaning is completely lost.
>>
>>61342669
>A great many of these people making ambient music simply do not understand how to play even a single instrument.

Bruh, google ambient guitar. These ambient guitarists are all over the web. They're the reason why there are so many pedal producers now because of the demand for ambient-oriented pedals.

>>61342669
Sure, but again - it's a silly generalization man! I could say the same thing about most of the rock scene which consists of three chords going over and over. It's a point of view and I'm truly sorry that you just have a magnitude toward a dronish ambient music. I don't believe playing "real instruments" and making three chord love songs is any better than an teenager making drone stuff on his synth. It's the same shit.
>Sure, there might be months of work going into the choreography, but it's so vague and formless that it comes full circle to be generic, and the underlying meaning is completely lost.
Yeah, fuck the preparation and all of the passion put into these things by people who are doing music for the sole purpose of making something. If it sounds generic then you put it in a garbage bag with the rest of the other stuff. I won't bother to be honest, but I guess vagueness could be also found in most of most of the modern music these days. Whatever the genre may be. And since you don't like ambient/drone stuff then why are you bothering to listen to them and give us your "vague and formless" "opinion" then? If I wanted to know what music you like or not I would probably ask you one day.

And you're the guy that's causing all the buttblastery. Well let me tell you buddy, your music is...fine. Not bad, not good. just fine. The drum sounds are a little too fake. The lyrics are good for what they are. Nice vocal harmonies. Mostly unexciting instrumentals, but competently played at least. solid 5.5/10. You as a person seem like an S-Class Assclown though, so that's something you could work on, especially if you want to come off as somewhat professional.
>>61341767
Your voice has a strange quality to it, but it's not bad. You're technically a fine singer, but it sounds like you're mumbling. I like the beats and stuff though. 7/10
>>
>>61341930
Why would you listen to stuff that is not 4 you? I mean, I thought that was the point in greentexting the genres, so that one could listen to the stuff one might like and then give some feed back.
On that note I really enjoyed your music, I think the vocals on treetops were great but then on customs they felt a little too, I don't know how to say this, "manufactured" (?) Yet the guitar work on that song was really good and layered ([?] I'm not good with words) I think maybe adding some piano or bass could really "ground" your stuff. Gr8 production too, maybe if you didn't play it so safe (wich isn't at all a bad thing, just becomes kinda boring eventually) and experimented a little you could have some top tier stuff right there
>>
>>61342932
Thanks! You might wait a bit for that though.

Just give it a second chance just by the greentext itself. It's good although I believe your vocals flaw a bit flat and really behind your instruments. Try to build a longer composition next time, I would like to see how it would turn out!

Interesting. They're actually real drums, save for the beat at the beginning of "Customs". I was kind of going for a more processed sound. If you'd like some more natural sounding drums I might suggest my album Overgrowth.

>>61342767

I can get down with the technical skills associated with ambient stuff. I actually play in another band that regularly puts 8 minute long, fuzzy, noisy drones into the set. The thing is, they're trolling and can't get over how people lose their shit when they turn their amps up to 10, hit an E and twist knobs.

nah man, the short compositions are kind of the point. Broadly speaking Metal is way too self-absorbed as a genre, especially prog metal, which is a huge influence on me. you rarely need longer than 2-3 minutes to say what you're trying to say, but most metal bands take a lot longer than that to fail to communicate anything of significance. I grew up playing in punk and grind bands so that probably influences me considerably as well.

Thanks for listening though desu senpai. I appreciate the input.

I like this a lot, I just think the guitar tone needs a bit more bass

Grindcore, noisegrind, etc. Because you just need that one edgy fuck.

Thanks brother! I just listened to some of this and downloaded your EP, I remember seeing you post your last project but I didn't listen to that too much. This stuff is great, and really catchy. The vocals aren't always on point from my perspective but they work great with your stuff, your voice is a lot like Isaac Brock's. Great great job with this stuff!
