Here is a piece that I wrote in 8th grade. I know it's repetitive, but it was only meant for showing off because I wrote it for a talent show.

The video was made recently so I could send it to someone, and there are a lot of mistakes because I made it in a rush.

tl;dr not the best video of not the best music.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_PujGG8Oes

The piece is kind of a solo version of a piano concerto I am coming up with. I use the main melody of this piece in 3 other pieces as well (the other movements) and these pieces are better because they were written more recently (finished one a month ago), but they are not uploaded.

With that in mind, even though this piece is repetitive, I'm not planning on changing it.

Also, DO NOT WATCH THE OTHER VIDEOS. THEY ARE HORRIBLE.

I will probably update the channel soon and add more videos and replace the old ones.
>>
>>61326566
thanks
>>
>>61334941
Geez, don't be so down on yourself. You wrote this in 8th grade? This is a lot better than most of the compositions at my college's composition concert.

There are some criticisms to be made, of course. As you said it's repetitive, and there's a lot of tension building up, with very little stuff of substance that it builds up from or builds up to. At 2:55 in particular I felt like that was a great end for the piece (although beginning in Gb major and ending in Bb minor was unusual, of course), and then it just continued. As you said, it was a piece for showing off, and it does seem like that. Even the key seems like it's showing off, though that could just be the words of some ignorant non-pianist - I hear from my pianist friends that C Major is actually the hardest key.

That said, this is really good, and I have half a mind to accuse you of compliment fishing.
>>
>>61335895
I'm not compliment fishing.

The most recent one that I mentioned (I finished a month ago) I am actually proud of and think that it's very good.

btw, I'm 18. I feel like I just got very good in the past 2.5 years. Everyone else says the same. I guess I just matured a lot.
>>
>>61335895
I should mention, I took out the part at :46 where it repeats the passage but doubled. I felt that it was too repetitive.
>>

>Wagner

Would you guys like to read the short play I wrote about the time a Wagner fan talked to a patrician?

Here it is:

*play begins*

Fan: Oh gee wiz I love Wagner!
Patrician: Wagner? Why not listen to better art music like Xenakis or Bach or Scarlatti?
Fan: Because Wagner is epic!
Patrician: Hmmm. Have you ever listened to any other art music?
Fan: Yeah!
Patrician: Like what?
Fan: Oh uh-
Patrician: Oh uh what?
Fan: Um... Bethooven?
Patrician: Which of his works did you listen to?
Fan: The epic one that goes DUN DUN DUN DUN!
Patrician: I knew it. You are quite a fool.
Fan: WHAAAAT! But I listen to epic music like Wagner!
Patrician: Tsk tsk tsk. Music isn't about being epic. It's about trying to create something wonderful and amazing with creativity, intelligence and experimentation.
Fan: T-that's not true!
Patrician: Yes it is.
Fan: N-n-no! IT'S ALL LIES.
Patrician: You seem to not be able to handle the truth.
Fan: *covers ears* LALALALA

*fan runs away*

Patrician: And that is how I attempted to educate a Wagner fan but failed because of his ignorance and unwillingness to learn.

*end of play*

Quite the didactic play

Do you imply classicism? It was for, like, 50 years really.
As for the romanticism, France had
>Chopin Berlioz Saint-Saëns Bizet Alkan Franck
And then French modernism happened.

I never listen to it outside the car, but its good if I need some art music

I'd go for Schnittke's Concerto for Piano and Strings, maybe Penderecki's Threnody, even if it is cliched idgaf its extremely well crafted.

the sound has more in common with the sitar than the modern piano. Probably why it sounds so strange to our ears used to hearing beethoven on piano and only piano.
