Is it worth listening to punk music? I never really listened to any music besides the radio until college so I skipped over the whole rebellious teenager punk phase thing.
I want to start listening to some post-punk, as I heard Joy Division and Talking Heads are very good and influential, but I'm wondering if I should listen to some true punk music first.
I usually listen to psych rock, prog rock, shoegaze, and IDM fwiw.

heres the more polished version of that chart
and yeah, first wave punk was shit. all the people in punk who were actually good moved on to do much better things in the post-punk years (see sex pistols v. PiL).
and this chart is actually really good for something that can seem like a complete mess at times. It's got a pretty good selection of essentials for each subgenre, and I found some of my favorite bands with it back when i was first getting into the late 70s-early 80s
