I just got the M50x's, I really enjoy them. I dont have experience with the HD 598's however.

had m50s fora year now, still fucking amazing
>>61301614
Neither.
>>61301651
This. Get the 558's and do the foam mod. Save yourself some money.
>>61301892
Don't do the foam mod, it actually makes them sound worse.
I have the 598s. Not ideal for aggressive music. Great movies though.

Enjoy your flat-sounding, non-bass headphones, cuck
>>61301971
i agree. they're so similar that it isn't worth voiding your snapheiser warranty and potentially worsening your headphone's sound
>>61301614
Both are fine, it just depends on whether you care about other people hearing what you're listening to. If you don't want to disturb others, get the M50s.
What's the difference between the m40 and m50 anyways? I've seen a bunch of threads mention to get the former instead of the latter

598's are pretty good.
598's are the most comfortable headphones in the world

HD 598 are better IMO, but only as long as you're not a huge basshead. A cheaper dac/amp like the FiiO E10K doesn't make that much of a difference with them if you're getting it just for the bass, but it helps a lot with other mid-range stuff like the ATH M50, DT 770 etc.
So yeah, since you're saying you mostly listen to loud and heavy stuff, maybe get the ATH M50, or one of the similar ones, preferably closed-back, and depending on what you get or if you want to, buy an amp. The E10K works fine with mid-range headphones, but if you're planning on upgrading to something better later, then maybe invest in a better amp/dac.
Senn HD 598 is still technically better for the price though, but at this point, your personal preferences matter more, so pick whatever you think you need. Better range and soundstage, or better bass for louder music in general. Also don't even think about using good headphones with your phone.
