You're tasked with selecting an album for a non-shit version of this book. What do you pick and why?
>>61296442
It's pretty much the apex of it's genre
This one probably.
>>61296481
Good pick already.
No explanation necessary
>>61296744
oh, I misread
>>61296811
"no"
lmao @ all this avant-teen shit itt, if you listen to anything not on this list >>61296811 you're a fucking tryhard
A lot of great albums are already in there
I guess, Tim Buckley - Starsailor or Lorca
Apparently they have Goodbye and Hello, Happy Sad and Greetings from L.A. (??????) but not those albums which are usually considered his best

>and why?
>>61296894
kek, misread twice
>>61296744
because it's a good overview of recorded classical music and the only one I'm familiar with
>>61296810
because Jandek's discography is unique and great, and this album is the cliche representative choice
>>61296894
>>61296871
The logical conclusion to prog
>>61296894
>>61296516
It broke the mold of what people thought hip-hop was.
This because it's genre defining, lyrically brilliant and sad.
well for starters
why: it's good
>>61296894
Whoops, sorry
>>61296782
While it's hardly the first to do so, the album is piece of music that's largely free from the constraints of rhythm and melody focusing largely on visceral textures instead
>>61296827
The album deconstructs 90's club music and culture before slapping it back together in a way reminiscent of what Trout Mask Replica did with rock and blues; both celebrating and ridiculing the era it takes inspiration from.
>>61296842
Combines two styles of folk music (Bulgarian and Mongolian) into a breathtakingly beautiful style that isn't really heard outside of middle eastern vocal music.
Performed entirely live 1922 requiring sirens, artillery, airplanes, a choir, and a series of conductors signalling from atop towers the album manages to capture the desolate cultural landscape of a post WWI Europe.

>Daft Punk
>pitchfork-core
Discovery got like a 6.
>>61296871
Yes
>>61298166
they regreted it and had it high on the 00s list
>>61296744
Anyone have a pdf/epub download-link for this book?
>>61296869
Lorca is better, Starsailor is more self-indulgent.
I'd recommend Royal Tryx - Twin Infinitives since it influenced so many bands in the 90s and 00s, and because of its majestic deconstruction of rock music in the 90s
because it's one of the best (if not the best) freak folk/ prog folk album of all time
>>61298166
The Pitchfork-core part of the chart isn't 100% p4k-core, it also has some other /mu/ essentials thrown in. De-Loused got a 4.9 and it's on there
>>61298914
This.
p4k-core isn't necessarily liked by p4k.
It's just albums known by people who frequent about p4k.
This is the best analysis of punk rock ever written, though the best-written punk rock book is I Dreamed I was a Very Clean Tramp by Richard Hell.
American Hardcore is also a good book.
I've worked at a bookstore for almost 5 months. Ask me anything.

forgot the pic
Reminder that LIz was a great meme for 7 hours until you guys scared her off
3 albums at least from each sub-genre ever plus more albums
>>61296442
Explain to me why this is shit.
>>61300649
Does that mean from each sub-sub-sub-micro genre of rock music only, or did you actually consider genres outside of rock?
>>61300802
>Does that mean from each sub-sub-sub-micro genre of rock music only, or did you actually consider genres outside of rock?
I consider only real sub-genres and yes I consider each sub-genre of everything.
I am also including genres that dont have sub-genres yet and styles that dont have genres yet too.
>>61300850
>real sub-genres
What does this even mean?
>>61300873
>What does this even mean?
Just stuff that arereal sub-genres, as some example oceangrunge wont be there because the stuff called oceangrunge fits on other genres
meme grips
>>61301062
What is a real sub genre and what is not a real sub genre? What definitions do you use to separate these?
