Do we have a band that's like Pink Floyd but for our generation? A band that's always innovating and trying new shit?
AnCo comes to mind.
But really, a bunch of bands do this.
>>61284100
Porcupine Tree
Porcupine tree weren't innovative but they were sure as hell better than PF
>>61284100
AnCo, Tame Impala, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, and Yo La Tengo
Radiohead, whether you like them or not.
>>61284178
>being this wrong
>>61284125
but they suck
>>61284221
this
>>61284100
>DSoTM
>>A band that's always innovating and trying new shit
Radiohead seems to be the perfect band for a person with a mind like that.
>>61284366
>DSoTM
>Not one of the most innovative and fresh albums of its time
>>61284100
Rock music is pretty much dead. All its possible facets had been fully explored by the eighties and ever since it's just been the same shit over and over. The only big innovators these days are Kanye West (much to my dismay cuz I hate his music) and house artists like Daft Punk, Justice etc.
>>61284489
Even Justice's most popular stuff, mainly Cross, is heavily influenced by Daft Punk. DP is probably the most influential group of this generation of music just because of their influence on house music as a whole.
>>61284547 (me)
*dance music, not just house
Opeth, Steven Wilson, both influenced by PF
>>61284221
Hate to be that guy, but Muse also.
>>61284451
I don't doubt you're the kind of person who didn't even checked the earlier PF or Barrett's solos.
DSoTM may be an impeccable easy-listening/commercial album, but hardly innovative compared to the progressive bands of its era. Besides Dark Side barely has the same standards of progressive-rock, sounds more like soft-rock (a trademark of Gilmour's guitar).
Please, go educate yourself before classifying albums when you didn't even listen to more than 50 albums of that decade.
>>61284178
I'm huge PT fan but that's just wrong
>>61284719
Hardly progressive? wat dark side is hugely progressive, listen to Any Colour You Like
>>61284796
Not that anon, but DSOTM is one of my all time faves.
But I will admit it wasn't very innovative. It took a lot of things done previously, and put them together in a new way (and they did it extremely fucking well). But it's relatively 'easy' for lack of a better term.
Not only that, but the album has become so pinnacle that so many bands have taken influence from it. Everything that made it fresh when it came out is pretty standard at this point. But undeniably, it experimented a lot less than it's previous albums.

this
Radiohead starting with some pretty generic stuff, before finding their own sound, and then branching out even further, regardless of how their fans felt about it
>>61284201
king gizzard and the lizard wizard stole my band name
and i will never forgive them for it damn good music though
>>61284201
Lame Impala? GTFO mang
>>61284929
>starting with some pretty generic stuff
pink floyd wasn't generic when they started out, they were pretty original from day 1
>>61284125
>AnCo
>innovative
>>61284854
where have you heard any colour you like previously??
stop beating around the bush, its the best, i know
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_F5Lq0zNZQ

>>61285442
its just one person
>>61285461
KKK
KOK
KKK
>>61285442
idk if its a meme, but it is probably a top 5 greatest psychedelic instrumental
>>61285294
Rare Barrett!
>>61285273
nah they gradually became generic
>>61284221
This
>>61285442
yes
>>61284854
Innovative does not mean complicated
This post is contradictory because you're saying that it tried new stuff and did it extremely well, but it's not innovative. It pretty much defined the "concept album" and the mixing and production was god-tier for its time.
>>61284719
>I don't doubt you're the kind of person who didn't even checked the earlier PF or Barrett's solos.
Please clarify
>>61284100
Kanye West
>>61284698
Muse is pretty damn good..
>>61287673
What if they never changed that much their sound just became generic over time due to being so influential?
I know they are on the heavier side but Between the Buried and Me
MGMT
Modern Swans
>>61284796
Any colour that you like is bad song though.
>>61285461
This. There's one guy on this board obsessed with that song
>>61288583
>Modern Swans
no
Death Grips
why is everyone in this thread wrong
>>61284100
>our generation
this is not possible yet, if by out generation you mean started in the 2000's, then there has not been enough time.
we can only guess which bands will do this
Some old stuff though:
King Crimson
David Bowie
Brian Eno
maybe Ween?
