Depends on the style of music you want to play.

Any cool strat copies that anyone would recommend? Im currently looking at the schecter and esp ones.

I'm gonna restring my esquire build to be strung with reversed string order
>Low E is now at bottom of nut, High E is now top of nut, Low A is now just above Low E at bottom of nut, etc.

I've mastered the traditional string setup, and I'm looking to apply my weird fret pattern technique to the new setup to play some fucked up shit

Should I get an orange micro dark with a peavey 1x12 cab, or should I just get the matching orange one

Man i wish i could get over the feel of the neck on the CV strat i tried. I loved the sound if it. But the neck felt like the cheapest/fakest i ever played. Other than that it was a pretty cool guitar.

Funky jazzy stuff really. I have a squire bullet that i hate. I figured some of the nicer copies would have different bridges but from the pics Ive seen they kinda look the same. Any recommendations?

Hey guys, i just got this squier for christmas, and its pretty good. Its just that the logo really bothers me, i hate the Squier logo so damn much. How do i remove it and replace it with a standard Fender logo, WITHOUT water-slide decal, cause i dont have any.

>>
>>61281805
That's lame don't do that. The finish on those squiers is really thick so there's no way you'll be able to strip just the headstock without making it look like shit.

What you might be able to do is refinish the headstock in the same color of the body and then apply a waterslide decal, that's really the only option you have. And you're still looking at spending $40-50 on materials alone, but doing everything right is what would be hardest.

well anon, thats what theory is for! to learn to play random notes and make them sound good. same with chords. But to answer your question, music theory is required to an extent, you dont have to be a guitar virtuoso like Satriani, or you can be a virtuoso if you want to. Music theory just makes things easier. I know a bit of theory and i can improvise to a backing track, but thats about it f.am.

>>61282167
im pretty sure they have a basic level of knowledge in theory

I'm at 3-4 years of guitar with no theory. I just decided to pick it back up one day after hearing some songs on the radio and have just been learning songs since then. Only used tabs and youtube lessons. I know it's bad, but I didn't really have any direction, I just knew I wanted to play the song.
>>
>>61282208

You can play and learn theory naturally, if you are not retarded. Through self discipline, training one's ear, and experimentation with the instrument, one can begin to deduce musical theory naturally. Music Theory is a discovery, not an invention, and thus anyone musically inclined can deduce enough theory to compose and play along with music they enjoy.
>>
>>61282297
I guess i can say that i've learned theory naturally, but without the help of a basic introduction to theory (half steps, steps, scales, minor, major) i wouldnt be able to even play a chord on a guitar. oh well, thats just me

First of firsts, take the guitar to a luthier and make him set it up for you. Most of the time, what one hates about the guitar is the lack of calibration

I do fix guitars. Calibration is easy if you want to learn, but you have to be patient and logical

>>61282293
I got the Squier one and besides it's lack of love in the making of the instrument (no paint in the body under the neck, for example), it kicks major ass

actually not retarded if you do it well. Just calculate beforehand, but check the adjustment of the truss rod before that.
Make the neck as straight as possible, then with a capo on fret one, unscrew the allen key at the headstock as little as possible to avoid buzz produced from lack of curvature. THEN go for the bridge nut.
>>
>>61282377

What you mean to say is labels. It's easier to compartmentalize what you're naturally learning if you can apply names to them, of course. Many players will absorb theory over time by having other musicians point out to them what they are doing, naming it, and that player then going "Oh, is that what that is? Okay."

Theory's a fine way to accelerate your playing, that's for sure- extensive knowledge of theory and its terms is how deaf musicians exist and how Jason Becker can still shred 20 years after catching the Lou Gherig's disease- but it's very fun and exciting to see how people who naturally adopt theory into their work with no education on the subject matter create music. Sometimes it's altogether unpleasant, sometimes it's phenomenal.

That's usually what you're supposed to do, except you just sand down the bottom, no cutting needed.
>>
>>61282378
No paint under the neck is a good thing. It allows more precise measurement of the neck pocket when it's being cut. Also this generally implies the body is being hung by a neck blank, which is a really good way to do it. Not that I can comment on the fender vs. squire thing, I don't own or want either.

Got an SSS American Standard Strat. I like it a lot so far, my only other decent guitar being a Les Paul. It plays well with my Twin Reverb and the neck has got a flame thing going on. Played it for a Christmas eve set. Haven't tried the trem system out though and it's not the color I was expecting (It's a 3 color burst) but I can dig it. Was expecting to get a white or black one desu. Any advice on what to expect with my new axe? Thanks for the input guys. For reference, the only guitar I've owned before was some low quality $100 beginner Strat clone. I learned some simple stuff on it a while ago, basic songs and chords, but it felt difficult and the guitar had poor tone and tuning stability.

I'd like to get a Les Paul instead of a Strat, as I like the humbucking tone and power that comes through the Les Paul, but the Gibson models are out of my budget and even used around my area they're all $1000+. I was looking to spend between 300-400. Should I go with Ibanez instead of Epiphone?
>>
>>61283950
If you can, spend around 300-500 on a guitar so you have something that won't make you constantly disappointed in your sound before you get another one. But, thing is, the amp matters a lot too. Getting a used Mexican fender or epiphone les paul for around that price will serve you a lot better in the long run. Could even give you something to work on as a project later by modding the thing with new pickups and a fret job. With the help of someone that's experienced in guitar helping you in store they can even help you avoid common factory issues and stuff like that.
>>
>>61284338
What type of music are you going to play? Do you like round or flat fretboards? Do you want a locking trem?
>>
I think epiphone guitar are too heavy and the necks are too fat on the cheaper models
>>
>>61284338
Do they sell Tokai guitars there? If so, get one of those. In my experience they offer the best value for money in the lower end.
>>
>>61284338
It kinda comes down to preference on how the thing feels in your hands and the sound of individual guitars. My Epiphone les paul is pretty sturdy though, hasn't done me any wrong.
>>
>>61284409
>What type of music are you going to play? Do you like round or flat fretboards? Do you want a locking trem?

I'd like to do some longform jamming, sort of like Buckethead where it's about tone and feeling which is also a big part of why I was interested in the Les Paul.

I'm not sure about the difference between the rounded and flat fretboard. I've only played on a Start which I believe is flat? So no preference.

I'm also not totally clear on what a locking tremolo is, but from what I've read on it it seems interesting. Overall no preference on that though.
>>
>get a guitar at 13
>too stubborn take the time to learn about music
>just learn how to read TABS and go from there
>play casually for the last 10 years or so
>now 24 and I want to know as much about music as possible

I'm not even sure where to start. poking around justinguitar right now but there doesn't seem to be a logical starting place for what I'm looking to attain, which is more so just general musical theory.

is there a good resource for this?

i have $~500 to spend on a new guitar

I had an epiphone would like to have literally anything else and would prefer something with a wider neck/fretboard than usual because my fingers are long. i don't have a specific preference about what I like to play but i would like a guitar that handles lower tunings well.

I was thinking G&L, a strat/tele or a les paul.
>>
>>61284530
Buckethead plays his signature Les Paul but that might not be ideal for someone else, who likes his music. I'd lean towards a super strat.

Roughly speaking chording is easier on a rounder fretboard and leads and bend on a flat fretboard.

And I wouldn't recommend any kind of trem for a beginner, especially a locking one. In the beginning, you'll spend your time on basics and not doing tricks with trem. At least that's how you should spend your time. On top of that, trems will always decrease your tuning stability and this is very noticeable on lower end guitars.

I started with an Ibanez RG321MH and I'd say you should get something similar. Strat bodies are more ergonomic than Pauls, it has two humbuckers, which you like, a nice neck and not many moving parts.
>>
>>61284692
we're talking about les pauls here.

anyone know of a good youtube channel for fingerstyle guitar? looking to learn some technique and I learn best from watching.

I was in here the other day asking about a La Patrie Etude Qi, which I picked up a few days ago, and I don't want to pick up any bad habits as I've never really played with anything but a pick before this.

love the guitar by the way. I feel like I made a good choice. always had a weird admiration for nylon guitars.

there's a link in OP for guthrie govan's two books. they're not exactly books, more like jammed together articles.

read the first one and learn every thing in it. if you don't know what he's talking about, read about it more online. there's a lot of exercises in his books that don't have much use, but you'll have to make the decision to use them or not.

the second book/part 2, or whatever it's called, isn't as good and it's filled with 'advanced' things. focus on the first book. if you find something going over your head, you need to learn it. if his explanation confuses you or you don't understand it, go online and read about it more. he pretty much covers all the essentials in the first book.

it's obviously a manufacturing process for why it's done that way, but why not just paint it together?

Well, nothing else has to be as perfect as the neck. Also, it's maple, which is a very hard wood. Do not build your first guitar out of maple or mahogany.
>>
>>61287582
Because it's the hardest part to make right and whether a guitar is good nor not depends on the neck, you can fuck up a body as much as you like but if you can still install hardware and have it withstand the string tension it's still usable.

>>
>>61290472
I dunno, I think maybe it's just "too clean" for you. maybe you should add reverb or something. To me it's super clear. I mean it's not like a tube amp's "clean". The only flavor you get is your guitar. That's not what everybody wants. If you want flavor just use the overdrive channel and turn the gain as low as possible, that'll give you a more electric or tube like sound, however you want to look at it.
>>
So I am looking to get my guitar actually set up, the intonation seems fine, but the action is a bit too high and has some buzzy spots on the low E, so I would want that fixed and the action set pretty low.

How much would a set up for that stuff cost? And If I wanted it set up for standard 11 strings should I bring in a set of strings for them too use? How much would this cost on average?

Also my uncle said I should probably get a fret job, in addition how much would this cost? And what does this involve

Then you don't like clean my man, there's no amp cleaner than a marshal. I always play or at least listen to a guitar pickup through a marshal amp on clean before buying, it doesn't dress up the guitar at all. But that's because I want a guitar that can handle it. Lots of guitar pickups aren't meant for a squeaky clean tone, they might be voiced around tube amps for example. But this is just my perception... It's useful to have a methodical way of looking at tone, even if it's a bit naive.
