Amazon has a couple of deals on right now for headphones. Are these worth it, or should I wait for something better (and if so, what's better?)
>HD439 for $50 (down from $100)
>HD598 ivory for $148 (down from $320)
>HD598 special for $140 (down from $250)
>ATH-M50x for $128 (down from $239)
>ATH-M40x for $79 (down from $139)
>ATH-AD900x for $149 (down from $300)
Tried the 598 ivory's at Axe's house and they were pretty impressive (my friend had 555s back in the day) yet another friend swore by the M50x.
HD598

being the most expensive (and half off, fugg), I assumed as much.
but what's the difference between the ivory and the special edition (black)?
>>61279793
Nice meme
>>61279796
Color. Specs are the same.
>>61279822
don't bother getting the hd598
the hd558 is $100 and has the exact same headphone driver. the only difference is on the hd558 they put a piece of foam near the driver to make it sound worse. takes 5 minutes to take the pieces of foam off.

598 has less bass and a higher impedance than the 558.
>>61279916
>598 has less bass
because of the foam
>>61279952
>because of the foam
Serious question, are you a retard?
>>61279900
>>61279916
interesting. I do enjoy saving $50.
that being said, it looks like sennheiser > audio technica. are the 558s the go-to?
>>61279958
have you even listened to both headphones? there's no fucking difference
>>61279958
same drivers, same housing, you enormous faggot
>>61280062
it's literally a marketing gimmick, that's it. it's the same thing in a different case with a higher model number, so OBVIOUSLY it's superior
>>61279996
I own a pair of 558s, and I have listened to the 598.
>>61279985
If you're on a budget just get the 558. I prefer the 598 for sound but the build quality is a little wonky, I was a bit disappointed when I first saw/handled them in person.
Oh, great. I love living in Australia.
>>61280106
>tfw your country doesn't have amazon.
Not from australia but i know that feel. Those damn headphones go for a thousand bucks here.
Thanks for the help, guys. I'm ordering the HD558s.
Murry Krimbus upon ye.

if you feel like the bass is a bit too punchy, do the foam mod. it sounds good as is anyway
>>61280361
>Void warranty instead of using an equalizer to decrease bass
>>61280426
eq'ing it isn't going to do anything
>>61280445
You're an idiot. It's literally decreasing spl for certain frequencies. That is doing something, you idiot
>>61279723
>should I wait for something better (and if so, what's better?)
Fidelio X2 of course
>>61280542
>Fidelio X2
>twice as expensive as any of these discounts
looks pretty, though
>>61279723
I have the AD900s and they are amazing. They are my go to headphones. Love the open backs. They are very well balanced.
the m50xs are not better than the 598s. get the 598s over them
I think the ad900's would be pretty good. If they weren't the no bassiest no bass headphones ever made
>>61280657
Open backs every time
>>61280681
the m50xs are not comparable to the 598s. 598s are going to sound better in almost all cases, but they will bleed sound in and out.
If you are going to be sitting quietly listening to all of your music, then consider getting the 598s. If you want headphones that you can use anywhere, including on the go, then consider getting the m50xs.
My AD900s don't look like that are the new ones better or worse than the old ones. Mine look like this, they 're nice I just wish they had a removable cable.
