I wasn't going to even get into this with the whole "stealing from black folks" thing because I don't care to each his own w/e but you called me out so:

Honestly this is racist against black people. It portrays them as sequestered savants, making pure music from their primitive libidinal souls.

When the truth is these guys Led Zeppelin "ripped off" were accomplished musicians who were very aware of the musical traditions, both white and black, that preceded them.

All musicians draw from other sources and synthesize. In that sense, musicians are in conversation with each other, irrespective of race.

All this "Led Zeppelin ripped off black musicians" thing is just a lame attempt to exclude old black musicians from the conversation. As if to say they themselves were illiterate and unlearned and incapable of drawing from their predecessors, unlike the more sophisticated but less authentic white musicians that came later.

It's all bullshit.

>It's not like albums have songwriting credits printed on them

You are legally obliged to credit the songwriter on an album, otherwise it is legally plagiarism. This is an objective fact.

You find me where in the original liner notes they give credit to the actual songwriters or else they are objectively plagiarizing.

Boo how for you that you can't enjoy the music as much if you acknowledge that they are outright song thieves, but the facts are crystal clear.
>>
>>61283357

So your claim is that the 95% of people in the world who don't like this hack Bullshit are all going through a phase just because you like it? Do you think not working at Macdonalds is just a phase for everyone just because you're a lifelong fry cook?
>>
>>61288186
Ok tell bob Dylan that about "lay lady lay", "I shall be released", and all the other songs he was known to perform that were written by others. I still enjoy those songs too. It's not hard to acknowledge that many many blues and classic rock artists perform the same fucking songs lol. Rage against the machine didn't give and credit to the who for street fighting man, and cypress hill AND rage against the machine perform pistol grip pump without shouting who wrote it originally.. He wrote both of those.
>Rage against the machine didn't give and credit to the who for street fighting man
Why would they? it was written by The Rolling Stones, not The Who
>cypress hill AND rage against the machine perform pistol grip pump without shouting who wrote it originally
You don't need to performing it live. On a recording you are selling, you do though.
>>
>>61288311

Your point is apparently on the top of your head, because you failed to grasp the basic premise of the debate.

There is a difference between playing a song live and recording it on a commercial release. Not some philosophical difference, an objective legally defined difference. If I release a version of street fighting man (which isn't by the who, btw) I have to credit Keith and Mick who own the publishing rights to the song. If I record it and don't credit them, I am stealing the publishing rights to it, which legally belong to the composer. How much money did they pay the composer for the mechanical royalties on those songs? The value of those royalties is in the millions of dollars, so if they didn't pay, they are money thieves as well as song thieves too.

(Pro-tip: they didn't)

Bob Dylan wrote lay lady lay? Odd considering I've heard so many artists performing it without saying shit about Dylan. I realize I fucked up about street fighting man I'm just drunk, ratm still never mentioned the Rolling Stones. And as for my comment about cypress hill I never said anything about live.. I hear this studio version on the radio all the time. I see all of your very well put and smart points about how in wrong- my point is bands have been performing (recording also) other artists songs for a long time, this is a fact. So I don't see why zep gets the hate.
>>
>>61290878
And if the point you people are trying to drive to me is that zep claims who have written when the levee breaks and bring it on home, like I said source me, from years of listening to zep the only thing I ever heard them talk about is how the levee is an old delta song written by whoever blah blah has anyone bothered to actually look of original artists are credited? I know they are in mothership and my guess is they are in the others too so what's the problem

Did they claim they wrote it? That's what plagorism is, what we are talking about it.

Oh so you didn't bother doing your research?
>my point is bands have been performing (recording also) other artists songs for a long time, this is a fact. So I don't see why zep gets the hate
Because there is a difference between a band covering another band, and a band stealing another bands and claiming the wrote it; Zep did the later.

You've gotten a big confusion on the difference between stealing riffs and claiming ownership I guess. My only point was, and still is, never heard or known the members of the band to boast that they specifically created the songs that were known to be covers. Pretty simple. And now all I can find on google is pics of John bohnam smoking weed

This man knows what's up. I feel like Achilles' Last Stand deserves a spot tho.
>>
It's weird with me and led zeppelin. I recognize they are a good band I just don't really care for their music.

They didn't claim it as their own though. See Clapton or The Who, who would acknowledge the orignal artist
>implying that Zeps later totally original compositions didn't blow that lame ass shit out of the water.
Oh yeah Coda is amazing!

Led Zeppelin is still seen as the quintessential rock band, can't really argue with that.

I know Babe I'm Gonna Leave You wasn't written by Led Zeppelin, so if we're only doing original recordings then the fifth would have to be All My Love.
