Odd Future = Industry plant, failed experiment to create hip hop and R&B that appealed to white hipsters.

Tyler is a douchey high school jock who got lucky and everything he does is scripted. Earl was actually serious though and when Tyler failed the people who wrote music for Tyler started writing music for Earl. The writers realized white people didn't like "joke rap" and wanted "real shit" hence Doris and all subsequent albums.

Frank Ocean was successful of course but he still has his shit written for him.

The rest are poor saps who got suckered into this game and failed. Once record execs realized they weren't profitable they tossed 'em. Already happened to Taco Bennett, Mike G, probably going to happen to Hodgy and Domo next.

>INDUSTRY PLANTS
what is the deal with 'industry plants?' can someone define this and explain how it's any different than the regular process popstars and rappers get made?

like, they don't just make people in a laboratory. in an ordinary situation regular people making music get picked up by big labels and their music gets revised by groups of people working to optimize its marketability. It's a completely normal occurrence. I remember reading a cracked article once about a rapper that did this for instance. I just don't see what people mean by 'industry plant' cause it doesn't make a lot of sense. There are millions of people making music that are willing to sell out and have their music changed by a label to be successful, so what is the difference between just a regular shmuck on a corporate label and a so callled 'industry plant?' you guys make it sound like it's some gay tinfoil shit

totally spot on dude, was thinking about the same concept few days ago.
fuck odd future and their blown out egos thinking they were the new wutang clan
>>
>>61267083
I don't buy it at all. It's highly unrealistic and extreme USA-centric. Gangster rap has had a big appeal all over the western world, and there are numerous countries ( like mine) where prisons are exclusively state property, so there would be 'no incentive' to launch gangster rap here.

It's just edgy, and teenagers like to be edgy. that's all man.
>>
>>61266833
>Can someone give the tl;dr ?

"JEWS DID GANGSTA RAP !"
>>
>>61267124
Well anon, it is not extreme compared to things that happened in secret during our history.

Also, those outsiders didn't care about other parts of the world, their eyes were on profits from US prisons and possibly other motives.
>>
>>61267143
jews? What about jews is in there?
>>
>>61266940
>Promoting gangster culture in order to create more inmates and so more $ for the prison owners

I could believe it. I guess there's a reason not a lot of people care for conscious/political hip-hop anymore
>>
>>61267223
Then why is TPAB the most critically acclaimed album of the year?
>>
>>61267191
But why could gangster rap gain ground in other western countries then? That implies that it has some natural appeal to people, which could also be the reason why people in the US actually listen to it.
>>
>>61267276
Popularity is what is important. Also, this event happend 25 years ago. It's likely that the same operation is not being conducted.
>>
>>61266955

>>

i wonder the same thing every day
>>
>>61267300
That's irrelevant to the story. It doesn't matter if it got popular overseas, the plan was to popularize music that encouraged criminal behavior in black people and the lower classes within America.
>>
>>61267191
>>61267191
>>61267143
>>61267223
Actually scratch that. Hip-Hop came from black urban areas , where it's known for their violence. Rappers will rap about what they see. White/jewish corporations may have heavily endorse it, but Gangster rap was created by blacks
>>
>>61267276
because it's a dumb conspiracy promoted by le wrong generation. The truth is that gangsta rap was originally a way for crack hustlers to tell their story of growing up dealing drugs and their hopes of having a real career. as the 90's progressed more and more fake rappers thought this was badass and cool and attached it to their image.

Gangsta rap is/was popular because it appealed to young people's base instincts of wealth, fame, debauchery, and naughtiness. For young men it was also a power fantasy of being a tough, hardboiled badass who dealt drugs like Tony Montana.

And I say this as someone who loves trap/gangsta/drill rap.

This is completely wrong, an industry plant is just an indie artist who gets signed by a label but isn't open about it. The only reason people look down on it is because hip hop has some obsession with authenticity.

You guys know Chance's dad worked for Obama when he was a senator in IL, right

His family owns some bacco farms, so money wasn't really an issue. He did go through some tough ass shit regardless, like seeing his best friend shot and killed

He's also been very vocal about not wanting to get tied to a label to get big.

>"Label deals suck, that’s just the truth of it," Chance said. "People believe you have to be discovered by a higher power, who hires you and takes a percentage, but in reality, you have to garner a fan base on your own."

About releasing free tapes

>"That feeling of getting something free—it’s a complete turnaround from what the industry feeds us," Chance said. "Why charge a dollar for [a song] when that’s not doing anything but making people undervalue music? None of my songs are worth 99 cents. They’re worth a lot more."

>“It’s a dead industry. The whole point of Acid Rap was just to ask people a question: does the music business side of this dictate what type of project this is? If it's all original music and it's got this much emotion around it and it connects this way with this many people, is it a mixtape? What's an album these days, anyways? 'Cause I didn't sell it, does that mean it's not an official release? So I might not ever drop a for-sale project. Maybe I'll just make my money touring,” Chance said.

He even turned down TDE, man

>"Yeah," he said, when asked about turning down the offer from TDE . "Don't say it like that, though. I turned down being signed."

>"I'm on tour now. I've only signed mixtapes, never signed to a label. Everything that I do is a part of my own business, and I think that in doing so, as an independent artist, it gives some stake back in the music industry."

Hating on Chano is literally the biggest meme of 'em all.

I think there was a time she was fame-thirsty enough to check out what people might be saying about her here -think of it as a kind of demographic test- but that time has passed.

"Industry plant" is one of the stupidest terms I've ever heard of. It seems people are just giving a new name to people selling out, that term also is way overused. I'm sure labels to look for people to be icons for music written by 50 year old men for pop hits but that's been known for decades. Maybe the term is as old but it seems like I've just been hearing it recently for some reason.

Yeah but Alice was like a 16 year old girl when she first got involved with Crystal Castles.

I tend to agree and think Haim is some honky-ass shit, but I love Danielle's aesthetic.

the real reason why the first vocalist of iron maiden (paul day) was dismissed is being covered up

>Thom Yorke got Ed O'Brien and the other Radiohead members to play ball with Kid A and later albums by constantly threatening to leave the band. They did what he said so he wouldn't

This is interesting and something I could believe with the Kid A recording sessions, but afterwards they probably would have been onboard with a stylistic shift.

>While Danielle showed an aptitude for the guitar at a young age, Moti made the decision that Este would be more suited to the bass, buying her a second hand Fender for $50
Holy shit it's true.

I think she probably used to lurk. She seems autistic enough to be one of us.

I think YOU are an industry plant, trying to cover up the satanic truth behind Miley's new image.

But the stuff he releases isn't good or newsworthy IMO. Also touring isn't newsworthy, that's kinda just part of being a musician.

Don't get me wrong I do like the guy, but he reeks of the p4k club/industry plant type.

Interesting idea but not that believable I don't think. The USSR was afraid of pretty much every form of popular culture though and thought jazz could destabilize their country. I could see this as having been propaganda in the USSR though.

While they didn't like rock or jazz though (the government at least) I saw a Russian car commercial from the 70s that used a rerecorded Beatles song as its background music. I thought that was interesting.

Say what you will about his edgy music but Tyler seems like one of the chilliest dudes in the industry. Watch his Big Boy interviews, it'll change how you view him
>suckered into the game
Literally Tyler got exposure off of Bastard so he got his friends together and was like "you niggas like music so let's make music nigga" and they did it. They made money, changed the game forever, worked with their heros, received critical and commercial attention and had fun. I envy their run, it was impressive.

If we're talking about industry plants, would you say they have to have sex with executives to get big, not unlike the Hollywood casting couch?
