I mean, there's no ethical justification for piracy. I do it anyway. I'm not self-deluded enough to think it's the right thing to do. I stopped trying to rationalise my actions a long time ago and just accepted I'm a scumbag.

I always pay for vidya, surprisingly. Even though I could convincingly argue that piracy of AAA games is kinda necessary.
>>
>>61253963

>I mean, there's no ethical justification for piracy.

And there's no ethical justification for not pirating. It's a moot consideration.

Yup, search artist name album name and zip or rar. It's just that easy. Other than that I head to newsgroups. I used to go to what.cd, but got tired of worrying about ratio shit and stopped using it. If I like something, I buy it on vinyl.

>information is a product

Their music is not a raw representation of their labor, in terms of the value we reciprocate through purchasing and consuming it. What if I made a groundbreaking mathematical theorem with ubiquitous applications, then fucking charged anybody who references it or applies it? What if basic geometry had copyrights? It's totally the same issue with music. If a musician wants some fucking money, then pursue a million other avenues of monetizing your music, stop supporting a nonsensical and corrupt system of intellectual property because you have some narcissistic cuckold notion of 'deserving' endless amounts material returns. Jeez, they'd rob a fucking bank if it were legal

And you're the one to decide that?

Pretty sure it's not as clearly defined as you make out. Not saying there aren't ambiguities here, but still.

>cuckold
Please stop misusing that word, /pol/. You're making it hard for us ACTUAL cuckolds out here.
>>
>>61254187

Piracy is just a symptom of the logical failings of intellectual property, as it's currently constructed. It reveals a contradiction

>>61254207

>And you're the one to decide that?

And they are? While input from the consumer surely dictates demand, INFORMATION DOES NOT HAVE A SUPPLY. This sort of intellectual property does not organically emerge from market interactions, it's a total ethical contrivance, based upon some weird wispy notion of what society owes producers of information.
>>
>>61254172
>information is a product
Depends how that information is arranged and/or where it originates. Don't be willfully obtuse.

If you record music digitally and immediately upload to the cloud, for example - erasing it from your hard-drive - is your work not your own anymore? You fucking pinko.

>Yeah. The artist. The creator. Not you.

Yes, of course.

Why can't producers and retailers collude with the government to enact laws that drastically jack up food prices? Artists are essentially exploiting incoherent legal precedents to extract more value from their medium than it's actually worth.

Bill Gates is famous!

Pharrell Williams is famous!

Why is mister Williams not a billionaire?! Better rectify this with obtuse psycho laws

With these three ingredients the “Kopimashin” makes 100 copies of the Gnarls Barkely track “Crazy” every second. This translates to more than eight million copies per day and roughly $10 million in ‘losses.’

Crazy indeed.

Peter’s machine is part of an art project about the value of digital copies which he’s preparing for an upcoming exhibition.

“I want to show the absurdity on the process of putting a value to a copy. The machine is made to be very blunt and open about the fact that it’s not a danger to any industry at all,” Sunde tells TF.

Stealing implies taking something. Meaning the owner loses it and you now own it. Digitally downloading music does not remove anything from the artist. Personally, I don't have the funds to buy all the music I enjoy, so the option would be between me not listening to their music and me illegally downloading and maybe buying later on. Which do you think is better, moralfag?

i buy merch and records to support artists that i like a lot and know would appreciate it but imo it's perfectly reasonable to listen to digital records without paying for them. i say that from an artist's perspective too.

Holy shit

>Comparing geometry to a composition
>Comparing a concept to its application
Geometry is a mathematical concept that is discovered through nature, just like any other mathematical concept. Music is also a natural concept (pitch frequencies etc.). But a musical COMPOSITION is much different, it's like using your knowledge of any mathematical concept to innovate or create an real-world application with it (for example, the concept of electrical circuitry can be applied to lighting systems in houses, cars etc.). The same fucking thing goes for music. If you know the basic theory of music, but apply that in a composition, it's not a concept anymore, it's an application of said concept, and can definitely be claimed as copyright. Just like how your calculator is manufactured/distributed by a certain company, or how your guitar is manufactured/distributed by a certain company.

It's also funny how you say that musicians are narcissistic because of this, because by applying your logic, everything is technically a concept and nothing should have copyrights or ownership.

To answer OP's question; Soulseek and Piratebay

Kickass
I'm too lazy to fuck with Rutracker

I buy the occasional limited edition or record company bundle sale to bands I like if I can help it. I'm broke af all the time which bore my pirating out of necessity. I won't justify it, especially since I'm trying to become a musician myself. I'd rather encourage people to buy the album if they can, but it'd be stupid to say you can't pirate the album. It's a bunch of wasted energy to prevent it.
