It's not better or worse. One holds beliefs based on what they've been told to believe, while edgelords go against them for the sake of being edgy.

It's actually pretty damn impressive how fast those songs were written, even if they are simple.

Congratulations on being regarded lads
Genius is a weird and inappropriate word, and hard work is underrated, but Kurt Cobain had a distinct and personal take on the world, and generally, when someone strikes a chord with his audience, that’s what people respond to.
There were a lot of bands that “sounded like Nirvana” at the time Nirvana made it big, but none of them have had the same long-lasting influence. I have to admit that I wasn’t particularly a fan of Nirvana when I was asked to work on In Utero, but during the course of making the record I came to appreciate that they were genuine about their band and their music, that Kurt was capable of sophisticated thinking, and that they and their music were unique.

Albini can be a bit of a prick, but he is insightful, and impressing him really means something.
IMO Nirvana's output is absurdly uneven, but when they're powerful, they're amazing. And when you get praise from everyone from Steve Albini to Robert Plant, Glenn Branca, Kim Gordon, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and Iggy Pop, it says something. When it comes to all the rivalries in that era of music, it's pretty obvious that the results are in and grunge won... glam metal is a joke that's met mostly with contempt, most britpop is so insubstantial that it's been completely forgotten (with the exception of a few genius acts, notably Pulp, Suede, and as much as I hate to say it, Oasis), but grunge is one scene where pretty much all the major acts are remembered with respect and fondness, whether it be Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Mudhoney, Screaming Trees, or a number of other groups... when people talk about the most significant rock acts to ever exist, those groups are almost required
