Does /mu/ know where I can find some transcriptions of the music from Trout Mask Replica? Arrangements? Notation? Tabs?
It's such a tight work, I always felt like this is the sort of music you should be able to find in full score at a university library or something. In ways much more mysterious than Zappa's work (which I *have* found in university libraries).
Also, Beefheart thread? What's your story getting into his shit?

Rock music isn't serious art, so it wouldn't be there.

His classical works, or his rock works?

Maybe not serious, but I think it's important. TMR anyway is original and good art, even if not "serious" per se. Having dealt with academia however, I hear ya...
I need to learnt this album on guitar but it's all out of tune and dense so I can't figure it out by ear

Academic music is truly the most pretentious thing that exists. I fucking hate university music departments with a passion. A shame they suck so hard, too, because the knowledge to learn music theory and everything else on a more professional level is something is something everybody should have access to readily.

Agreed. I got my degree in music composition (read: bad idea idiot) and it was steadfastly INSISTED upon that nothing have drums, nothing could rock, no electric guitars, etc. Academic music only, or I'm sure the profs would be lynched by the Ancient Ones (80 year old pieces of shit) heading up the college.

I found this transcription of Flavor Bud Living
Not sure how good it is

I remember hearing "When Big Joan Sets Up" on internet progrock radio (I know, I know) when I was 15. My friends were there, and its was during the sax solo. Everyone was like, "what the fuck is this??" and "turn off that shit!!" so we did.
Later I downloaded the track along with a couple others to torment a friend who was spending the night. He'd locked himself in my parents' bedroom (we were pretty much chasing each other around the house for some reason), so I put "Moonlight on Vermont" on a boombox and cranked it up as a musical weapon. I played it over and over, and after the 5th or so time I decided it was the coolest thing I'd ever heard. So I downloaded the whole album and was obsessed for years.
Pretty standard story

You should probably try to listen to good music but you clearly don't know what that is.

Who are you responding to?
And what is your idea of "good music"?
Thanks anon :^)

I like anything that's good that I can dance to. Anything else doesn't make sense. Like a trans woman. Makes me sick. Rapist

TMR is most definitely a serious piece of art, just because over 99% of rock music isn't doesn't mean it all isn't.
