Every decade has one-hit wonders. The people that wrote lots of number-1 hits, though, helped define the musical landscape of the era, and when people think of that time, they think of the hits. Not sure if you're the same anon as I was responding to, but the statement "Hitmakers have no impact in music" is just absolutely completely wrong. To say Quincy Jones or Prince or The Beatles weren't important is stupid. They may not have been on the cutting-edge of innovation, but I would call them definitely more important than the crazy innovators.
