I've had two gfs who were nominally into metal, the first was back when I was still into all the shitty core bands and her taste was pretty similar. The second liked melodeath and power metal, don't really know what went wrong between us as she never explained. Both were qt though. Basically don't give up hope, they exist, even though they're hard to find.

Yeah, but most of the time the elements designated don't relate to what I'm looking for. There is no "Psychedelic" or "philosophical" genre in metal, it mostly just relates to superficial aesthetics or something.
For instance, I've heard incredible composition in both Funeral Doom and Tech Death. Also, Pic related is one of my fav albums due to the concept revolving around Metaphysical Solipsism. Outside of a few other albums, most of Djent doesn't even attempt the level of conceptual narrative that Catch 33 attempts.
Genre's are very depersonalizing to me. Their function is convenience, but how Genre's are memetically formulated usually don't have anything to do with the things I look for.

one of the dudes from the band got accused of rape and then the band broke up right after releasing the record, but it's still a good one, i think the rest of them are in new bands now, who knows. One of the loudest bands i've ever seen.
