Ockeghem's mass is bad but his songs are goat
Machaut is best pre-Palestrina composer
Stravinsky is overrated
Webern is overrated
Gesualdo better than Monteverdi
Crumb is underrated
Schumann best nineteenth century composer
Mozart better than Haydn BY FAR

oh, and I forgot

Bach was only and autistic fedora
>>
>>61165444
>Gesualdo better than Monteverdi
"no"
And Mozart being better than Haydn isn't a hot opinion, unless you're poly but he's retarded.
>>
>>61165444
>Gesualdo better than Monteverdi
remember kids, autism kills
>>
>>61165509
No Bach is the indisputable father of music.
>>61165547
"yes" and I said that about Mozart because I wanted (and got) replies :) I like them both.
>>

*watches you tip a fedora

>>61165712
He's a gayer, better Webern.

who is this music angel?
>>
>>61165780
Not really. Webern is tasteful and minimal. Kind of the opposite of Crumb
>>
We desert island discs now.
What 8 recordings would you pick?
>>
>>61167450
Alban Berg Quartet: Beethoven Late Quartets
Auryn Quartet: Schubert Quintet
Grumiaux: Bach Sonatas and Partitas
Hotter: Schubert Winterreise
Koroliov: Bach Art of Fugue
Marriner/Marriner: Mozart Clarinet Concerto + Quintet
Takács Quartet: Bartók Quartets
Xenakis: Persepolis + Remixes
>>
>>61167450
Gesualdo - Sacred music - Summerly, Oxford Camerata
Bach - Violin Partitas - Grimiaux
Bach - Art of Fugue - Musica antiqua Koln
Strauss - 4 last Songs - Szell/Schwarzkopf/Berlin radio phil
Martinu - Symphony 1 + Double concerto - Jiri Belohavek, Czech phil
Schoenberg - 5 pieces for orchestra, a survivor from warsaw - Robert Craft, LSO
Schnittke - Concerto for piano and strings - Viktoria Postnikova, London sinfoniettta
Psathas - Omnifenix

I would be very happy with these recordings

That release has the best recording of Persepolis. The Merzbow shit is just a droll bonus
>>
>>61168312
enjoy your merzbow remixes on your desert island friend.

Surely theres a xenakis album out there that doesn't feature remixes by noise "artists". You should really do some research.
>>
>>61168211
I forgot I was going to include Goebel on Biber Harmonia Artificiosa. Swap one of the Schuberts for that.

You don't have to listen to the second disc, you know.

This recording is more well-known but it abridges the work by five minutes.

Hi poly
>>
>>61168650
yes. Anyone who isn't classically trained is worthy of this label

>>61168427
you should probably choose more carefully if these are desert island picks. Persepolis isn't the only piece xenakis composed. If you want to include remixes in the list of the only music you'll ever listen to again, your loss.
>>
>>61168312
>Capturing even the music on disc is necessarily a difficult job and the mix here, done at the INA-GRM studios by Daniel Teruggi under the composer's supervision, is a bit more muted than the listener, used to Xenakis' brutal, often savage sound (and familiar with the recording of the same piece issued in 2000 on the Fractal label), might have reason to expect. It does well up nicely over the course of its one-plus hour, and the sounds themselves remain visceral, dramatic, and altogether spectacular, but there's an edge that seems to be missing. -Brian Olewnick
I will have to agree

This would be a better choice

Einstein on the Beach, I shit you not. Mostly for Robert Wilson's direction first and Glass' music second. Then, it's really not much of an opera, huh?

Listening to Mahlers 6th symphony, anything similar?

I'm a sucker for anything dark, dramatic alot of with brass that isnt Wagner.
>>
>>61171812
Mahler 5.
Bruckner 8 - 4th mvt
>>
>>61165444
Nice trips, here's my hot opinion:
Xenakis and every other "DUDE LOOK HOW HARD MY MUSIC IS LMAO" composer are literally shit and aren't worth my listening time.

>>61168227
>Schnittke Concerto for Piano and Strings
Shoo poly
>>
>>61168227
Put your trip back on Poly
>>
>>61171812
Listening to the sound of a bullet heading towards your brain you fucking memer. Mahler is shite

>>61168650
>turns on white noise machine

Noise "musicians" are literally not artists. Now shoo poly if I do say so myself.
>>
>>61166489
How is Webern minimal in any sense?
>>
>>61174229
compared to crumb he's pretty minimal

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7OAaMATTG4

Minimal as in "there isn't much there" not as in steve reich repetitions
>>
>>61174433
I've listened to everything he's written no need to link. I think he's great but he's not minimal. His music is all about complex relationships and therefore he uses what to me sound like extremely opaque gestures like transposing a phrase in all voices at once. And I'm not sure where your opinion of Crumb is coming from. Are you sure we're talking about the same guy? Have you heard the madrigals?
>>
>>61167450

Does anyone else think that writing music with (improvised) basso continuo should be picked up again? I like that way that it allowes musicians to insert themselves into a piece.

What do you guys think of the Alban Berg Quartet? I've avoided them for a while but their Beethoven is quite good.

I mean if you want that go to Jazz and popular music, that's what it's evolved into.
