What types of headphones do my fellow /mu/ tatnsts use?
I just picked up pic related off amazon afew days ago, been really digging them, the base is fucking epic on these things
5 Euro in-ear plugs
Sennheiser HD280's for cans and SoundMagic E10's for buds.
10 euro in-ears
AKG K240 and K182 which I just got, both are pretty good for the price.
I use the k240's for mixing mostly. I know open-back isn't as on-point with sound sometimes, but they're more comfortable to wear for long periods of time since it creates less of a vacuum over your ears.

The bass response on the 280 is very true (i.e., there is no bass boost). I actually bought mine back when I was doing FOH live audio and bought them specifically for the flat response. The bass response is punchy, good separation, but you're only going to hear what's in the mix.

-the telephone like extending cord doesn't tangle up, easy to shove excess cord in a pocket

Thoughts on the HD598 Special Edition?
It looks to me like the only changes are they made them black and added extra leather to the headband so you can't the plastic when it inevitably cracks.
Of course they're also more expensive than the classsic HD598.

the 598's are great. but if you pay more than $100 for any version of them, then you have wasted precious resources.
akg bt 845. really enjoy these. the bass is punchy but these are more neutral toned and i like that

HD 598s. There's a black version now that's cheaper, was like $90 during the Thanksgiving sales.
