Post every record that you know that for you resembles TMR in some way
I would love it if they are more underground so that I have to actually have to check them out
For me that would be Uncle Meat - similar humor, similar spoken word passages, similar melodies (the blimp is recorded over a mother's track for example)
Enjoy the vibrantly red image
i'm i the only one?
Lots of polyrhythms
Try Royal Trux - Royal Trux (1988)

it's pretty much TMR if you replace the playfulness with some surreal horror
listened to all itt for now, thanks anyways, some good suggestions
TI is much closer imo than '88, but good point anyways
bump for interest

Reccing this, it's the TMR of death metal. The mind bending polyrhythms, abstract lyricism, fractured mathy riffs, atonal complexity, they have so much in common. Except that this is incredibly scary at points and TMR isn't. Also, this record is not fun, not in the slightest.
I'm reaching here. but for me it kinda has that vibe of tmr.
Beefheart's saxophone playing was clearly influenced by the free jazz of the time
here's some Giuseppi Logan Quartet from 1964 that I think sounds similar to the Captain's saxophone stylings

The Shaggs - Philosophy of the World
It's like TMR by accident
An Evening with Wild Man Fischer

another weirdo that Zappa discovered and produced an album for, even weirder and more mentally unstable than Beefheart as a person, but less musically interesting
Poet Vachel Lindsay reciting his poem The Congo reminds me of the Beefheart-only tracks on TMR

Hans Buhrs' vocals often gets compared to Beefheart's. This is also around the time The Ex were really getting into free improv even if Instant is a lot more representative in that department.

meet the residents is much more beefhearty
also, Moonshake - Eva Luna is like a noise/post-rock mixture of TMR and Future Days

>beefhearty

i give you my most beefheartfelt apology for my error
Biota - Object Holder
other Beefheart albums obviously
Maybe this
funk/free-jazz/post-punk combo, comes pretty close
