I kind of regret making that thread earlier about a particular album that i think is overrated in rym.
After all, the rym charts are not made for my liking, and of course it will have many albums that i think are rated way too highly, everyone have different opinion and taste.
I think i should have expressed my opinion, but i think the way i did it did not emphasize the fact that i respect whatever ratings RYM comes up with, since it was not made to reflect my opinion, but the average of the opinions of many people.
I think Ulver is a good band.

I'm working on my rating scale, and it's really complicated to perfect it. Right now I'm using a 10-point scale for both RYM and individual songs in foobar, with 5 being "Enjoyable". Meaning it's a song that stands out, one that I actually want to listen. A 4 isn't really a bad song,but it's just "Listeneable", it merges like ambient in the background, it's something I don't really pay attention to, that doesn't bother me, nor excite me. Any point above a 5 is a piece closer to absolute greatness. Because of this, I have very, very few 8+ songs in my library.
I used to have a 5 being "Listeneable", and 6 being "Enjoyable", but I ended up having too many inflated ratings, so I switched to this instead. I feel like an outcast for having a 5 that is the equivalent of most people's 6...
So please explain your rating scale...

Now that I just started holidays, I started cataloging some stuff, and have also been working on a music genre flowchart of american music. It's not perfect, and there are some things I have no idea how to fix (like the roots of Folk Rock), but it has been interesting to work on it while also learning and listening to new stuff in the process.

I usually rate which ever of these two ratings goes higher. Peaks or Averages.
Peaks are how much I like a specific moment or song from the album. Songs that take me to mind-blowing or tear inducing levels get labeled as an 11/10. The best songs I have ever heard that don't make it to the 11/10 get labeled as a 10/10. For 9 and below it's just intuition, with a 5 being my lowest rating and meaning no enjoyment at all.
Averages are the overall feel of the album, with exceptional highlights being excluded, and the score being the average of the average ratings.
The peak rating is usually as follows.
If it has 3 or more 11/10s, it's a 5.0
If it has 2 11/10s, it's a 4.5
1 11/10 or 3 10/10s is a 4.0
1 10/10 is a 3.5
So, from those I choose which ever is highest and then I'm done. It's a pretty simple way to rate stuff intuitively that doesn't requite a lot of overthinking.
