It really depends on what you're listening to. A lot of the live stuff is rather hit or miss, I'll give you that, but when you find good live recordings, they're GOOD! Jimi at Monterey Pop for example is great. Jimi at Woodstock has some good moments. The Band of Gypsies album is also chill. But Jimi plays Berkley and The Isle of White shows are mediocre at best

everybody on /mu/ should listen to Electric Ladyland at least once. It's such a great fusion of soul/funk/psych/rock. He definitely gets too little attention here, probably because he isn't a cute woman or a rapper.

definitely doesn't get discussed about enough, When it comes to his live stuff, listen to Woodstock or Monterey or pick up one of his live compilation albums that have all the good stuff because his live stuff can be hit and miss especially if you aren't use to him. Studio wise his first three are great but definitely should start with are you experienced? Or Electric Ladyland, Axis has amazing and i mean amazing songs but overall it can fall flat for its production. Other than that Band OF Gypsys is a nobrainer, everyonr should listen to it once if not for only "Machine Gun" which ranks in his top 5 or 3 tracks he ever recorded especially since its a live cut. His posthumous album The Cry Of Love is beautiful and really is the best thing they could have released after his death

You're suggesting Muddy Waters isn't fucking incredible? Most of his stuff after about 1966 is formulaic (Electric Mud as the exception) but early Muddy is genuinely great great music.
As for Hendrix: A bit over-egged because he died young (playing-wise I think zappa was better) but obviously fucking great and iconic. Crosstown traffic is also a timeless party record
