Writing an essay on Vaporwave and the capitalist symbolism behind it for Music Appreciation class.

Apparently you guys are where it all began. Can you redpill me on the beginnings of the genre and how /mu/'s related to it?

I know all about the music and the satirical/cyberpunk elements of the genre and the relation of Japanese consumerism/90s home computing technology world of tomorrow, but the history is where I need some extra info.

If /mu/ is interested I'll post a link to the essay when done.

some tranny slowed down some diana ross songs and pretentious internet hipsters ate it up

It got attention online and around here somewhat and on Last.fm it was initially thought of as a joke until there were some quality releases and it began picking up attention from music review sites such as Tiny Mix Tapes, Marcel's Music Journal, Wire, and Dummy Magazine. it received critical acclaim from these sites and many others and it's considered now to be the forefront of modern electronic music.

Isn't it past your bedtime Marcel?

that is to say that i think that there is a great deal of worthwhile analysis to be made about floral shoppe, but you're ostensibly very naive

If you want to get to the origins of vaporwave, /mu/ isn't it.
You have to look at the work of people like james ferraro, who laid the groundwork for the consumerist message and general aesthetic with his Far Side Virtual, which was then mixed with the sounds of people like OPN's chuck person project and 骨架的.
/mu/ was only one of the many websites that was early in listening to the genre defining Floral Shoppe, and even then mostly as a meme.
Good luck finding any reliable sources for this stuff though.

Write about how it's a shitty meme album unironically enjoyed by dumb normies

OP, do not even dare mention Marcel. Worst viraller since Lunar Eskimo.

Who else here doesn't care about vaporwave's meaning or aesthetic and only likes the sounds?
Here are some of my favorites:

Windows 98の - インターネット https://youtu.be/W9pyyVjj2Ds?t=2m29s

Ah, it's really good. Some of telepath's ambient tracks are good, but its difficult to distinguish between most of his music because it is so similar. Most isn't memorable.

Any more like this?

Vaporwaves ideological background is the only legitimately interesting thing about the music.

>he really just said vaporwave is enjoyed by normies

and this is a classic example of why to never take anyones critic or opinion on here serious

Don't say cyberpunk. Don't even mention it. It has nothing to do with this fucking Soundclown genre
>>
Idk I like vaporwave
It's pretty dreamy to listen to.
Wouldn't say it bears the same weight that others genres bear, but it's definitely not as light as different other genres.

Is fun, was statement, now is meme.

420 literally has over a million views. so does floral shoppe.
