What's the best Scarufficore album and why is it this?

I would only even compare them in terms of experimentation and their uses of it, other than that I would barely draw many straightforward parallels whatsoever.

you guys literally did it the other way around

this heat is the most pleb, then pere ubu in the middle, and pop group is most patrician (objectively)

Pere Ubu > PiL > Wire > This Heat > Swell Maps > Chrome > all other post punk bands
>>
>>61139690
they sound nothing alike
>>
>>61139788
The Pop Group are forgettable. They have a few catchy songs but they've never released anything resembling a masterpiece on par with Deceit or The Modern Dance.
>>
>>61139823
>Deceit
>better than the s/t
go back to reddit
>>
>>61139823
I mean, I like Deceit, but your post is literally reddit.
Pop Group > This Heat
>>
>>61139823
>forgettable
the hallmark of a pleb
>>
>>61139801
They both follow the same general ethos of catchy songwriting with an experimental edge and a quirky vocalist, free jazz, Beefheart and dub influence etc. Pere Ubu just does it a lot better.

>>61139843
S/t is good, but it's basically just a weak Faust/Varèse imitation. Deceit was the album where they actually came into their own and released a truly unique masterpiece.

>>61139896
Y has about four decent songs and even those get boring quickly. The rest is just really uninteresting. Sorry but there's not much else for me to say about it. They seem to have some fairly interesting musical concepts but lack the talent or knowledge to execute them effectively, so the end result just sounds like a poorly thought-out mishmash of ideas.
>>
>>61139823
deceit isn't THE masterpiece

it is this heat

why, you ask?

it also has the vietnam/war vibe going on, but it feels and sounds real, almost like an epiphany, while deceit feels almost calculated, and not that original either. also the vocals are obnoxious for the most part.

also, the s/t has not waving, 24 track loop and rainforest/fall of saigon on it. you can't quite pigeonhole the sound on s/t. it is even a more ominous record than deceit, despite the backstory surrounding deceit. i almost forgot to mention the grinding masterpiece of HORIZONTAL HOLD.
>>
>>61139823
>>61140288
you cannot be more wrong
>>
>>61140314
>the vocals are obnoxious for the most part
You just went full pleb. Those bizarre vocal harmonies are literally the best thing about the album.

>>61140320
Prove it.
>>
I have yet to really get into post-punk
do I have to have some punk knowledge to fully appreciate post-punk? All the punk I ever listen to is usually folk punk
>>
>>61140430
>You just went full pleb. Those bizarre vocal harmonies are literally the best thing about the album.
it is quite possible that you like that aspect of the album the most, but those are not harmonies, let alone bizarre.
>>
>>61140450
nah not really, post-punk is its own thing
>>
>>61140493

That album is mostly trash.

Quick, someone recommend me some good Adrian Sherwood production
>>
>>61140670
That doesn't make it not a harmony. I don't think you know what you're talking about.
>>
>>61140288
>Pere Ubu just does it better
Why do you think so?

>just a weak Faust/Varese imitation
What makes it weak?

>a truly unique masterpiece
Why is it a truly unique masterpiece?

>those get boring quickly?
How so? What makes them boring?

>rest is just really uninteresting.
In what way?

>Some fairly interesting musical concepts
Like which musical concepts?

>lack the talent or knowledge
How do you figure that?

Basically what I'm saying is there's essentially zero content to your post. Did you think this passed for insight or something?
>>
>>61140720
they tried to sound harmonic, but they ended up sounding not so harmonic.

i don't know why lisa germano is never discussed here

geek the girl is a genius album and slide, happiness and excerpts from a love circus are all very good

i know that everyone here loves bjork(and i do too) but i think a strong case could be made that lisa germano is the best female artist of the 90s. i would even rank her amongst the greatest female artists of all time
>>
>>61140450
Nah, I don't like Punk but still like Post-Punk. It's way different, and way more varied.

well, at least they tried.
and you loved it! what more can you ask for?
>>
>>61140815
WRONG.

We Are Time
>>
>>61139577
For How Much Longer is better, though.
>>
>>61140754
the point was for the harmonies to sound grotesque
these guys were fucking musicians bro if they wanted to do clean pleasant harmonies they could, but that's not what they were going for. that's what is appealing about them.
>>
>>61141012
>grotesque
yes! that's the word.
and the lyrics are so orwellian!
we are trying to escape the truth, but that is so lame.
>>
>>61140938
No it's not, it's literally a softer version of Y

what did he mean by this?
>>
>>61139773
Full circle yay
>>
Why does /mu/ hate Lullabyland and Good so much?
>>
>>61141736
Vampire Rodents are one of the few Scaruffi-core bands that aren't acclaimed, most of the other bands that he gave high ratings to at least have a cult following. Not to mention that industrial rock has a stigma around it. Good isn't very avant, it's pretty much a very straightforward jazz-rock album and unlike most of his other 9s which were experimental or groundbreaking in some way
>>
>>61141691
that album is terrible
>>
>>61141691
love this album
>>
>>61141736
Because Lullaby Land is not even remotely enjoyable to listen to
>>
>>61141736
I just like other Morphine albums a bit better.
Good is still good though.
>>
>>61139577
Holy fuck. The intro of She Is Beyond Good and Evil.....

I noticed it's only on the remastered version, but it's a single from the same year nonetheless. Thanks for posting this. Any other crazy good post-punk suggestions?
>>
>>61139750
Nice pseudo intellectual posturing, faggot
>>
>>61141691
I have mixed feelings on this album.
>>
>>61141691
Never heard this
>>
>>61142387
Nick Cave and Fugazi were influenced by Pop Group, though neither of them are post-punk.

Check out Pere Ubu and Public Image Ltd.

>i would even rank her amongst the greatest female artists of all time
along with nico t.b.h.
>>
>>61142750
Stop bypassing the filters.
>>
>>61142146
Jennifer was 18 when they released Twin Infinitives. I'm guessing Neil wasn't much older. Not to mention that they released a great debut album two years prior. What are you?
>>
>>61141736
Good? How about Almost Perfect?

first time listener here senpai
this shit is hard to listen to senpai
i mean the main riff is kind of cool i guess. do i need to be stoned?

this

>>61140795
she's not obviously strange or unique (even though she is truly rather unique), and i think her music lacks the ability to be polarizing enough to generate large discussion or anything like that as a result. many people who listen to it probably feel underwhelmed, which is a shame. the music of a few other truly masterful bands/artists have a similar problem, like gun club or morphine.
>>
>>61142146
kill yourself m8

it's the most fulfilling and cathartic album i've ever listened to
>>
>>61142938
>this shit is hard to listen to senpai
it's free-jazz influenced post-punk
it's not meant for the laylistener
