I personally really, really like xgau.
I may not agree with what his favorite albums are, or even those that he says are worth listening, but I appreciate him because he's consistent.
If I'm looking for an album that's easy and accessible, I always look to xgau.
He knows what he likes, and he doesn't change his preferences around whatever hype or controversy the artist might be experiencing.
It doesn't seem like much, but that's a lot more than what a lot of music critics and journals can say about themselves.
