terrible time my ass - it was the post-grunge hit parade! whether it was on the radio or music videos on television, nearly everything in this thread happened during or just after the grunge bloom, and it gave new life to pop music.
tons of guitar bands with clever lyrics and catchy tunes made hundreds of genuine pop hits. not that I'm nostalgic for Matchbox 20 either, but face it: dozens of scrappy one-hit-wonders got their single chance at "making it" and succeeded (back when that meant something - money too!)

THAT'S one of the main things I thought was great about that time MSM-wise: just how much great-sounding music was being produced at that time. it felt endless, up until the early 00's. then (in retrospect) it felt like the big boss at the top of the skyscraper gave the order to stop acquiring new rock bands and all at once it was like the tap got turned off. I tuned out, came back in '09 and have been addicted to increasingly obscure genres of music ever since!
