Honestly I would take the utter mediocrity of most shoegaze over the downright terrible shit that most genres have. It's almost impossible for shoegaze to be completely awful, while it's very easy in other genres (see: hip hop)

I enjoy retrowave a lot. It's not having shit taste because the only shit is modern music but it can be embarrassing just for being so niche. I also really enjoy surf rock and rockabilly.
Then there's the hard rock and metal part but that probably falls more on the edgy side than on the plain embarrassing side, specially for brutal death metal, black metal and drone metal.
