On cheaper guitars the metals used for the bridge and other components is always soft as fuck, make sure to exert a lot of downwards pressure and use the right sized screwdriver or you'll strip the screw heads. :^)

nice gear for a few months

Ok guys, I've been playing with fingers for like 4-5 years now, and I'm starting to use a very aggressive fingerstyle on thick strings, and my thump is getting blisters in one spot and I cant play because of it. Will I eventually develop MEAN calluses, or what? (The thumb is on my picking hand)
>>
Hey guys, guitar noob here

I've been playing bass for about 12 (maybe 13) minutes now and I can't figure out how to make the notes do different things? PLEASE HELP!
>>
>>61104616
How do I hold it?? and why do all the dots SOUND THE SAME
>>
>>61104497
Yeah, actually you will, but more than that your finger's flesh will become harder, making playing agitate them less. Until you have hard fingers it's pretty easy to lose calluses from a few days without playing an a hot shower. But if you have harder fingers things will be groovy. You don't need to be bummed if your calluses come off a few times. If you play more than usual and think you are going to get a blister, stop and put some dry deodorant on your fingers, should stop the blister.
>>
>>61104497
thanks. i just didn't want to go from playing beautiful acoustic guitars to playing low tier electrics. i had the money and got a really well timed email from GC with a 20% off coupon, so i figured what the hell.

>Will I eventually develop MEAN calluses
you'll eventually get calluses. it might take a few more blisters though.
>>

I will post this in every /gg/ until you like it. Rickenbacker pickup positions + jazz bass pickup positions = ultimate bass guitar.

I've been playing guitar for years but never owned a proper amp (and am currently ampless). Going to try some amps tomorrow.

What are some things I should be on the look out for? Testing tips? I don't mean specific amp recs, I mean stuff like certain EQ settings that can quickly give you an idea of how an amp sounds, things that indicate how long an amp will last, how to deal with buzz, any stuff you think someone should keep in mind while testing in amp; I know a lot about playing but I know very little about amplifiers and have very little experience with them.

no sorry

it's way more than loud enough
>I'm trying to find a good amp that does bedroom levels for when I go off to college
too loud for that. even at 7 watts it's too loud for a dorm room imo. i recommend a micro dark for dorms / apartment usage. amazing tone and a headphone jack. if you need something to gig with though then definitely go for a dual terror. just get something quieter for your dorm room.
>>
>>61106501
yeah i'm gonna be doing that sometime soon, just have to get the $$$ first.

How do you like the dual terror? That's what I'd really like instead of the dark terror but it's like twice as much kek
>>
>>61106560
i love everything about it
size, volume, tone, all amazing. i use the tiny terror channel for dirty cleans and the fat channel for overdriven cranked toanz
i'm past the honeymoon stage with it too since i've had it for a few months
if you're playing doom and can mic up your shit (you might not even need to since you'll probably be cranked to 8+ for doom) i'd go with the dark terror. you'll probably get more of the tone you're looking for with that. it's a great head. i want one for myself.

I kind of like PRS, wouldn't own one though.

Funny enough they're usually called fence sitters guitars here.

>>61105885
A lot of things are very amp-per-amp unfortunately. It's the kind of stuff you'll learn over time.

eg: to boost the mids on a Mark IV you turn the bass to 0-2.
>>
>>61106301
>bedroom levels
I recommend a Marshall mg15cd or mg15cdr if you can find one. SERIOUS tone from those, built in overdrive which you will want. "Contour" is a dramatic mid band EQ that can give you so many sounds your neighbours will think you have 10 guitars. The MG15CDR has reverb, the MG15CD does not. This amp is super loud for a 8" speaker, and handles bass well. I used mine for my bass for a year before I got a real bass amp and it worked fine.
>>
>>61106624
>usually called fence sitters guitars here
why?

Since my Vox VT80+ is fucked with it's low end buzz should I get it replaced/repaired or get my money back and buy a different amp?

So guys, I've got this Epiphone humbucker I want to play around with. Would a new magnet make a difference? If so, what kind get what sounds? I know ceramic is typically hotter and has a harsher tone, but beyond that I'm clueless. I hear alnico this and rare earth that but I'm confused. I've taken the pickup apart and popped the magnet out, and put it back together, so I know how to install them, I think.

They're seen as not a 25.5" Fender or Superstrat, and not a 24.75" Gibson. It's from a weird conservative attitude. That being said, you can usually get a pretty funny reaction out of PRS guys by calling them fence-sitters guitars.

>>61106615
>not micing up live
Cabinets are very directional. Doesn't matter if you're volume is maxed you'll still want to mic up.

>>
>>61106301
Pushing big air is where it's at if you want to doom. Even low wattage amps (5-15) are going to get too loud for a dorm if you're pushing them hard through a 10" or more. With big 50-100 watters and 4x12 or more you're going to fill out your lows and have a good volume increase to jump into. The low watters tend to battle for volume with a band where as you can just take command with a bigger rig.
>>
>>61106817
I love that finish, hate that guitar company tho.

>>61106825
idk if it can be, just asking if sticking with it with either a repair or replacement is a better choice than picking a new amp

Is this a meme or do I really have to return my guitar???
>>
>>61108162

I don't know what you mean, but.. Are you fretting the note properly? As in, are you exerting enough pressure on the fret?

Since its a new guitar, uneven frets are unlikely, even shit guitars can't be that bad.
>>
>>61108204

>>61108220
How could this possibly be a meme? You have a brand new guitar that is damaged. Do you not want to return it? I don't understand what the problem is.
>>
>>61108220
depends on if you, want to, think it's the right thing to do and wont mess up the next one
>>
>>61108220

If your frets are really that bad to the point whereby they don't even work, then yes return it.

Every guitar should have its fret ring out correctly. That's basic guitar setup 101.
>>
>>61108227
Wow!! I just made different notes for the first time!! Some sound fuzzier than others, but I'm playing with long finger nails if that matters any

$600 budget for a used head + cab or combo. my head is spinning there are so many options :(
Egnater Rebel and Peavey Classic 50 seem like the best options. I heard bad things about the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe...

Ok guys pulling down instead of pressing the strings are making them come out a lot clearer. Flicking it harder + pulling it seems to be helping
>>
>>61108306
>Some sound fuzzier than others
Sounds like it might be "fret buzz". You might need bridge or neck adjustments, probably a new instrument that was never setup maybe

Nah, I think he's just not exerting enough pressure on the fret, or even fretting on the fret itself.

Since its a brand new guitar, I would just ask him to send it to a tech for a setup.

That's why I said "tremolo" vibrato system. It's branded/patented by Fender as a Tremolo so even though it doesn't actually produce that effect it would be incorrect if I didn't include both.

Most maple will be harder than rosewood, and certainly the kind that fretboards are made of. However it is more vulnerable to damage from the air and oil, so maple fingerboards always include clear coat. But they do work well. The clear coat can get a bit scuffed by playing but can't be permanently damaged.

Fender made a bunch of maple fretless back in the day. And once again maple is harder than rosewood.
>>
>>61108964
I think they are likely to crack, not sure about this though. As far as the board getting dirty, I had an unfinished maple neck (not fretboard), and it didn't get dirty since it was lightly oiled like a rosewood fretboard is. Even though unfinished necks are awesome to play, they don't last that long.
