Nah, an industry plant originally was an artist that was signed to a major label and thus had their backing, marketing, promotion, etc. but kept the guise of being an indie artist (typically one that "came out of nowhere" to foster a fake connection with fans because typically fans feel closer to indie artists than major artists.
