No it's type of compactron type. A 6K11 or 6C10 would be around three 12AX7s.. The point is to hot rod the amount of gain in an amplifier like that.

Does anyone have experience with ESP Edwards? From what I've been able to tell, they're obviously not as good as the handmade esp standards, but are of better quality than anything in the LTD series.

Do you know anyone who plays music, or is involved in that business for a living? Have you ever had gigs? Are you willing to play whatever garbage other people are willing to pay to listen to? There has to be a solid plan in place with achievable, step by step goals that'll get you to where you need to be able to play music for a living, which more often than not, doesn't work out so there also needs to be a plan B.

i wouldn't mind covering certain bands for shitty bar shows if that's what you mean. finding some old guys to get drunk and play ac/dc with could be an experience. i have money saved up but i'd use it to buy some recording equipment and stuff. my gf makes a lot of money and said she'd support me in whatever i decide to do

You still need to have a bit leftover just in case your relationship melts down.

it won't. we've been through too much / been together for too long. she's literally bugging me about marriage daily. the only way i can fuck things up is by not proposing in the next year, haha. my plan would be to just start working again. my parents aren't rich but they care enough that they'd bail me out. not sure if i'd let them though. (i say that now but if i was about to live on the street i'm sure i'd think differently)
>>61087972

I keep bugging you about knowing people who make a living through music, or even those who have tried and failed because they're great reference points just in case you find yourself in a rut, to learn what works/doesn't, pitfalls, etc. Maybe an anon who is will show up on this thread later. Start looking for those people based in your area. Their outlook on this is completely different.

If you do decide to go through with this, do update us from time to time.

it really sucks that buying instruments online is the norm now. actually going to a store and trying it out is the only real way to do it to make sure nothing is wrong with it.

i refuse to order guitars online now, i'd rather drive an hour to my closest music store than to buy a guitar online, it's just not fucking worth it. i've done it a few times and there's always some type of problem with them.

last thread showed some love for operation make an LTD F-250 a playable guitar, which is surprising, usually i just get roasted

i sanded it down with pic related, 120 grit, and patience. i'm also refinishing the neck, i didn't want any gouges or anything in the wood.

my plan is to replace the trem, and pickups, pickups being a SD black winter in the bridge and a P90 in the neck

basically, i want this guitar to be everything that my EMG 81/85 Gibson SG is not. in the heavy metal realm, anyway

hopefully it goes ok
>>
>>61088764
Cheap trem rule doesn't apply to strat trems fyi. The way they work makes them pretty fool proof as far as build quality goes. You may need to replace the springs though. I do not know how floyd trems work, Will's easy guitar did a video all about cheap floyds that I haven't seen yet. His videos are really good though.

i was gonna do a clear satin finish once i get it all sanded down. i might paint something on it before i finish it, i might not

it's a destined to be a metal guitar, so i was thinking maybe like a goat's skull or a quick pentagram, but i'll probably just do it clear; i think neckthru's look sweet with clear finish.

i just started this project though, i wish i could post more progress pics

i've noticed over the last 10 years guitarists are using stranger and stranger boutique type of effects. that's fine, but they tend to not use those same strange types of effects song-to-song, it's more of a one off type of thing. the problem with that is they probably have fucking gigantic pedalboards.

No, really, it is. I really want to be nice when I say that. Grounding electronics doesn't even require good soldering skills. Personally I consider anything you can get right the first time just by watching a tutorial basic.
>>
>>61095155
I think about 20$.

You can go ahead and do it yourself if you feel confident with a soldering iron. it will probably only take one or two wires. You will have to have soldering clamps, bc if you move the wire while youre soldering the joint wont be 100%.

Obvisouly a lot depends on the situation, but youll probably have to solder a wire to the back of a pot and theres where the trouble comes in. If you leave the iron on the pot for too long the coating on the inside might bubble and youll then have to replace the pot. Again, if your confident go ahead, the chances that youll damage the guitar beyond repare are really small.
>>
>>61095155
Please google this it's gonna take forever to explain and it's absolutely affordable to do yourself, like 10-20 bucks if you include the cost of a shitty soldering iron. If you can borrow one then its pennies. Also you cannot mess it up, guaranteed.

Why are 99% of demos such shit? Like 80% are just pentatonic noodling on 3 different settings and the remaing 19% get dragged down by shit like bad recording or not showcasing features properly or whatever. Literally just A/B shit a whole bunnch across as many combinations of settings as you can think of playing the same few licks in a few different styles. Just hit a couple chords, turn the knob, hit the chords, turn the knob, hit the chords, turn the knob... Then play a blues lick, turn it back, play the lick, turn it back... Then a jazz lick, then a funk lick... Then move onto the next feature or control and repeat. Talk about the features as you go along, then maybe do some of your favorite combinations at the end, then maybe throw some effects on.

When you try and find a demo of a relatively rare piece of gear and there are only 2 demos, one recorded with a laptop microphone and another where they just fuck around with a delay pedal... Drives me up a wall.

I'm trying to get my guitar to sound like the lead keyboard that comes in around 37 seconds. Any suggestions?
>>
>>61096868
I've heard something like that come from a fretless bass, so try a fretless guitar.
>>
>>61096851
buy some pedals m8
>>
>>61096983
I know about pedals, but I'm not sure if guitar should sound same with everything on 10 or everything on 0.
>>
>>61096978
I wonder if it would be catastrophic to have my frets removed from my guitar
>>
>>61096150

Haha, yeah that's kinda it. Everyone expecting you to play some Chet Atkins and then just unleash some heaviness.

As much as I like the Root Tele I want a tone control (want a bit more variety) and I'm not too crazy about active pickups.
>>
>>61097119
Get a cheap used squier to try it out
>>
>>61097119
It's catastrophic if you have a bad ear and can't pick up when you're on the note. But since you can play with a pick, it won't really be as hard as a violin or a fingered fretless bass.
I'd do like >>61097208 says, buy a cheap squier, take the frets out with an iron and pincers, polish it, fill the holes left by the frets, polish it again, and then take the nut and sand the bottom of it so you can get a nice, low action and then put some flatwounds.

While we're on the subject, is there anything similar to vigier's surfreter but for basses ?
>>
>>61097007
valve amps will break up towards 10. If you have a transistor amp (highly probable) you shouldnt notice much different tonewise.
Turn your guitar volume down tho, that should change sound more than your total sound.

>>61097119
go like >>61097208 said and do it on a cheap guitar. Its pretty cool. The only thing you then have to take into consideration is that you really need to lower the nut and bridge to keep the intonation on the lines that the empty fret slots leave behind.
>>
What if you just got a cheap fretless instead?
>>
>>61097485
cheap guitars are usually only any good if theyre mass produced (not saying all mass producted guitars are good tho) and there just arent any cheap fretless guitars that i know of that are mass produced

Even if squier did it, they wouldnt be able to produce the same numbers as a generic bullet strat...
>>
>>61097353
>>61097382
I could also have a fretless neck made by warmouth or something
>>
>>61097543
ok i just tried warmoth and its 182.00 for a single piece maple neck without inlays and without frets.

so if you already have a guitar that isnt your main instrument it might be an option. Otherwise i would still think that getting a cheap squier and modding it would be a better idea
>>
>>61097654
oops i forgot the nut. So its 222 with nut, but then still without finish....

Are your hands cold? Warm them up, physically, I mean.

Maybe try some Ben Gay and/or Glucosamine and/or Chondroitin and/or some warm-up exercises like this:

Check out some Duesenberg Les Trem II demos on YT. Definitely the way I am going to go, if I ever find the guitar I want.

That was more about the counting than coordination but it's still fun to Django through these shapes (in addition to the minor 7):

V: xx3433 VII: xx7677 I: xx8899

Some Canadian dealers but they join in the bum fuckery by selling in USD. Otherwise it's the import duties and fictitious delivery costs that get you.

>>61096467
I used to have this problem but on the left side I think I play often/long enough to not get "cold" these days. On the right side I use one technique for strumming, picking, sweeping... always from the elbow. It kicks in faster for me than finger or wrist picking ever did.

So a friend of mine gave me his Epi Goth Les Paul to work on and I found his bridge pickup is completely dead.

I have a humbucker from an Ibanez RG laying around and thought maybe I could stick it in there as a temporary fix until he decides to get new pickups or whatever.

Would the spacing on the pickup match the guitar, though?

Did you check the pre-amp tube?

Guys I know this is gonna come out as whining but I seriously wanted to ask you an opinion.

Is 25 too old to pick up guitar again? I started playing when i was 15 years old, just strumming, never seriously. After finishing school, university and working at a wagecuck job in Australia on a working holiday visa I came back home and I don't know what to do with myself. I broke up with my Aus gf of 2 years and I have too much free time, I'm literally going crazy.

I don't know why I can't help but feel ridiculous and old thinking about playing again. But I really want to buy a cheap squier and continue what i left some years ago...

Another problem is that I'm from the south of Italy, and there are literally no bands I could join here, apart from peasant folk (pizzica) and Guns'n'Roses cover bands.

I guess i just need some comfort, I dunno it sucks.

Monson makes some crazy odd shit, but I love them for it
>>
>>61098211
no, I haven't really looked at it properly yet, i'll look at it tomorrow.

And. I'm shit at all this amp shit so what would I be looking for?
>>
>>61098242
It isn't too late, bro. Music is ageless. You can do it! If you wanna just play guitar, that's fine, if you wanna record or play live, that's also fine. Success in music is relative.
>>
>>61097868
i remember i got kind of into his warmup exercises a few years ago from that lesson vid

they're good, but holy shit he goes overboard with warmup. warmup shouldn't take more than 10-15 minutes, he put like an hour worth of warmup exercises. by the time he was done with his warmup examples i wanted to just put the guitar down because i was bored out of my fucking mind.

he must have practiced for 4+ hours per day doing shit like that
>>
>>61098201
>Would the spacing on the pickup match the guitar, though?
chances are yes, but you should just open it up and measure

>>61098242
Pick it up bro. There is a chance that there is someone else in your area that has the exact same opinion as you and really bummed that there arent enough electric guitar players

i used to do 15min warmups as well, but then i once saw the drummer from lamb of god saying he usually warms up for about an hour. That made me take warming up a bit more serious.
>>
>>61098316
Sometimes it takes me about an hour or so of warm ups like that Vinnie Moore one before my hands start feeling really limber and like I have a lot more control.
>>
>>61087312
Too much maple. Would look much better with a dark colored board, like ebony or some shit.

>>
>>61098395
drumming warmup is different and takes longer because they use their entire body to play the instrument, so they need to get all their limbs working together.

guitar isn't like that at all, it's just fingers

>>61098401
the easiest and fastest way to warm up your hands is to just wash your hands with warm/hot water for a couple minutes. does more for me than any warm up exercise.
>>
>>61098495
>drumming warmup is different
true, but the impression that i had at first that petrucci was a maniac subsided when i discovered that he wasnt alone.

>he easiest and fastest way to warm up your hands
this. and i sometimes just hold a cup of tea before playing and i find that thats pretty efficient too
