This album ruined Vaporwave.
maybe not directly, but the aftereffects of it sure have.
>>61078993
that just means it was influential on the genre. whether or not you like the way it has influenced vaporwave is beside the point.
>>61078993
I know it was influential, but it turned vaporwave in the wrong direction in my opinion.
>>61079248
this
I'd say it sparked interest in the whole genre and allowed other artists to ride off its popularity. That's a good thing in my opinion.

>>61079248
I don't know much about vaporwave. Could you explain the effect it had?
>>61079380
bedroom producers pitch shifting down a few 80's tracks and call it a day.
>>61079380
it turned much of the genre into teens slowing down 80s lobby music, or in future funk's case it samples city pop and does nothing with it, carrying itself completely on someone else's melody
pretty much it made the ''SLOWED DOWN DIANA ROSS'' meme completely true for a large portion of the genre
yep. The irony is beer on the rug's whole essay on how vaporwave is a critique of consumerism or whatever, but this album basically commodified the whole genre
In a few years you will accept that Hong kong express and Telepath saved the genre

dumb tripfag
vaporwave is essentially screwed & chopped '80s/'90s music & pop
most vaporwave is entirely sample-based and contains no instrumentation
that's why stuff like Blank Banshee isn't considered vaporwave
>>61079458
link?
>>61079636
yet albums like eccojams still had a way to make it sound it's own, while floral shop and the acts that followed are exactly what the tripfag laid out.
>>61079458
wasn't it internet club who said that? afaik gaurav hasn't said anything to that extent and i know vektroid doesn't believe it.
also, floral shoppe does the same amount with its samples as chuck person's eccojams. just because you dumb shits made it a meme doesn't mean it "ruined vaporwave"
What if the album has half samples / half original material?, like Undersky Lights?
>>61079702
i'm with >>61079712 about floral shoppe vs eccojams. love both albums, but they're pretty basic screw & chop / fx experimentation on all trax. the songs were probably finished very quickly if not on the fly. it's a conceptual thing, and it's only pretentious insomuch as people start talking about "critique of consumerism" and whatever the fuck.
if you wanna knock albums 'cuz they're easy to make, go to youtube.
>>61079712
>maybe not directly, but the aftereffects of it sure have.
what about that do you not understand? I never said anything about floral shoppe directly. I like the album but the aftereffect are pretty disastrous imo.
> just because you dumb shits made it a meme doesn't mean it "ruined vaporwave"
yes, yes it does.
>>61079877
you have some fucked up ideas about causation, anon.
you can't say that the album caused the ruin of the genre when what you mean is that imitators of the album caused the ruin of the genre.
but I'm not sure you've even made a convincing case about the genre being ruined. nor have you mentioned any albums in particular.
are you sure you're not just talking shit for fun on the internet?
>>61079969
>you have some fucked up ideas about causation, anon.
no u.
cause: Floral Shoppe
effect: memes, Imitators everywhere, an a e s t h e t i c culture created, bedroom producers pitch shifting 80's pop tracks and posting it on bandcamp.
was it intended? probably not. does it matter? no.
This album ruined Shoegaze.
