Guys I listened to You're Living All Over Me for the first time a few days ago, so now I wanna talk about the influence it's had on shoegaze. I'd guess since YLAOM came out a year before You Made Me Realise came out, and because YMMR doesn't have the CT-influenced dreaminess that Loveless has, YLAOM is probably a pretty big reason for Shields to start adding a focus on guitar textures to their twee or post punk or whatever.

I imagine Kevin Shields listened to more than one album that year though, so there's probably other factors, but I don't really know anything else.

I have not! thanks for the link. This is really cool
>>
I'm very much into dream pop but i just don't like the way heavy distorted guitars sound (ones used by Cocteau Twins and in MBV) . I've been given recs before but I wonder if someone would have more in mind.
>>
>>61063143
I wouldn't mind distorted guitars popping up 3 minutes into the song for a climax of sorts.

my favorite song for the past week or so.

I'd love to hear a high-quality recording of this performance.

Candy Claws' Warm Forever?
You probably already know CC but this is their christmas one and it's beautiful.
>>
>>61063091
I've seen this video. It's hilarious as fuck to see how weirded-out Kevin is because of the singer.
>>
>>61063143
You've heard pinkshinyultrablast, right? They use distortion really effectively
>>
>>61063406
Who is that singer anyway?
>>
>>61063447
Lou Barlow I think
>>
>>61063529
>>61063091

Why wasn't J or Kevin singing?

Is there any lo-fi ambient stuff that actually sounds worked on?

Anyone from san antonio texas wanna start a band? 19 play guitar
>>
>>61064352
What you wanna do is do a google search for small shoegaze bands in san antonio, then go to their shows and talk to them.
>>
>>61064861
i already started a shoegaze group for my city and asked around there to the people who joined it but to no avail. but yeah i guess it wouldnt hurt to make some friends at a show.
>>
>>61064899
Yeah I don't know anything about meeting people or starting bands.
>>
>>61062893
why do we keep using this image for the shoegaze general? Kinda looks viral markety to me to do so
>>
>>61064917
lol i was thinking the same thing.
>>
i wanna do a shoegaze cover of last christmas. i have already. but just need other instruments.
>>61064909
>>
>>61064917
the guy who makes the generals has said that he's viraling it.
>>
>>61064944
if you want to send me mics in the mail I'll do drums and vocals for you
>>
>>61064992
idk why he would think that is a good idea, unless he is the artist behind it, which even then still makes no since because viral marketing is seen as an annoying assholeish move.

>>61065492
They're distorted but the guitars are all arranged in a more subtle a graceful way. There's feedback and shit in the first BBK track.

Can't forget the huge influence of JAMC Psychocandy. If you listen to This is Your Bloody Valentine, released in 1985, you hear the early sound that they would have had without the noise (also in Geek!). Then Psychocandy comes out RIGHT after(still 1985) and Shields listened to that shit all day and then MBV releases another EP, still in 1985, called Sunny Sundae Smile, where you can hear the beginning of the "shoegaze" sound. I also think Spacemen 3's Sound of Confusion(1986) was the next influence (psychedelia). Maybe Loop but their album didn't come out until '87 and things were changing fast and they didn't really add anything new to the scene. Not that I don't love those guys.
>>
>>61065860
Damn how did I forget about the JAMC. Yeah you're right. As I was writing that OP I wasn't sure when they started adding the shoegaze and dream pop elements into their music.
>>
>>61065910
NP bro, but honestly JAMC were probably like 90% of their influence. They basically scrapped their sound and started over after Psychocandy came out
>>
Which Bardo Pond albums are shoegaze?
>>
>>61066525
Only one I've listened to is Lapsed, which has a lot of noisy guitar in it. I enjoy that album, but they're really not a shoegaze band at all. It's sort of like Goslings, there's a ton of feedback (and wah wah) on most of the tracks and that qualifies it as shoegaze.
>>
is there anime that's about shoegaze?
