Yes, MBV had a EP out that can be seen as influential-however by their sophmore album Slowdive was working on a sound without any influence from loveless. Essentially a more dreamy version of shoegaze.

The objective scale is more complex, and believe it or not, the overall quality of the art can be measured. Is it original? Is it technically good? How much talent went into making it? Is it cohesive? Is it consistent? Did it influence or impact it's respective media in a big way? Sure, you can personally enjoy Pitbull's Dale more than you enjoy Loveless, but Loveless is obviously the better made album.
