>Some people might do it not conscientiously

Could the OP be considered an example of this?

>Only listening to entry-level stuff != having shit taste tho
I disagree. Listening to entry-level stuff exclusively is one of the most important factors when it comes to determining how bad someone else's taste is.
No need to be an asshole about it though.

I don't believe in bad tastes and you should stop using music to elevate yourself over others
Trust me, it makes you enjoy music more

>But seeing how you make sure to highlight how you believe in 'bad tastes' every time I see you posting I'm starting to believe you are one of those
That's prejudice.
Also, I don't care if my taste is good or bad, and even I aknowledge my taste isn't even in the top 5 or maybe 10 of tripcode users who regularly post now (to use as an example).

>I don't believe in bad tastes and you should stop using music to elevate yourself over others
When did I say I was?

>Trust me, it makes you enjoy music more
My taste is about the music I genuinely like, because it's based on my own musical preferences instead of what I consider to be better.
>>
>>61055265
Well I'm legitimately curious now
What is a good taste to you?
>>
consider this: taste isnt good or bad. instead, its present or absent, you either have (developed) a taste _for_ something or you dont.

then again, you could argue having more (broader) taste is desirable, therefore the most expansive are the best tastes
>>
>>61055326
>its present or absent, you either have (developed) a taste _for_ something or you dont.
That's what I think too
>is desirable
To whom?
>>
>>61055309
A person with good taste is someone who has an original taste.

>>61055326
A developed taste is usually a good taste.
>the most expansive are the best tastes
Yeah, this also works (but maybe because expansive tastes are unusual/original?)

very specific tastes are just as unusual arent they? i guess it leads people to deeper search, and makes them useful resources for obscure albums, therefore its a good thing, though not _because_ of the fact theyre outliers, and not necessarily "good" taste

Makes sense I guess
I still prefer not to use the good/bad qualifications because derogatory and turns music into a race
>>61055448
>wouldnt you like to appreciate as much (about) music as you could?
As I said, it's not a race
You enjoy it, for whatever reason you do? Than that's it
A dude who listens exclusively to Gorillaz might enjoy music in the same way someone who has 8000 artists in their library
>>
>>61055419
See
>My taste is about the music I genuinely like, because it's based on my own musical preferences instead of what I consider to be better.

Now, Mr Bungle is a genuinely good band, especially on Disco Volante and then California, yet their self titled is my favorite.
I love that boundaryfuss mix, yet I don't know how highly it is one the big scale of music (or mixes). It's very overrated on my chart though, and I like The Beatles and Yes more than I like that recording.

>>61055448
>very specific tastes are just as unusual arent they?
Some tastes are more unusual than others.
Yes, having this kind of "good taste" as a desirable goal for every music listener definitely has some good consequences when it comes to a music society, as long as they keep honest about their taste though.
>>
>>61054367
>Literally nobody does that.

>I still prefer not to use the good/bad qualifications because derogatory and turns music into a race
And is that a bad thing?

>A dude who listens exclusively to Gorillaz might enjoy music in the same way someone who has 8000 artists in their library
But the dude with the 8000 artists clearly has better taste, especially if you keep in mind that he could like Gorillaz as much as that guy, and the favorite album of the 8000 artist guy could be far more emotionally powerful to him than a gorillaz album could be to the other guy.

lol do actually consider other's opinion on the music you like? The hell is a 'music society'? I mean, yeah, I like it when people see me as some kind of guru but having this as an 'objective' when you listen to music? Lame
Also, there's no such thing as a goal when listening to music
>>61055561

How does this relate to what I said?
>Once you consider other's opinion on your taste you don't like music, you are using it to feel ahead of others
So, if a friend tells you he liked an artist, and you check out that artists, you are using that information to feel ahead of others?
That's how stupid that argument sounds.

>>61055637

I could just listen to Free Bird over and over and over and over and over and over and over and never get tired of it. It's so non-boring after the first 10 or 12 minutes. So exciting after the endless repetition. I just love it. I could listen to it over and over and over. If I hear it 10,000 times again before I die I'll be happy. Stick me in hell for eternity and put it on auto-replay.
>>
>>61054608
Just because someone's favourite album is entry level doesn't mean it's all they listen to. My favourite album is ITAOTS which I found through Youtube suggestions, and through the comments I found /mu/, now if I said it's my favourite album without context people will call me drone or whatever, even though I just really like the album for what it is. It's just really wrong to assume people don't listen to music as much as any other just because of their favourite album, or the albums they like, for that matter, if someone comes and starts eating up the essentials charts they will almost undoubtedly like it, and what are they going to do, lie about it for the "oh meh geez my taste is so obscure" points? Hell no, while people should try to discover music by their own, you shouldn't be an asshole about it. Just recommend them ways to find music instead of telling them to stop seeking after their newfound hobby.
