Honestly, I feel like drum kit isn't very hard
And even if you play incredibly hard and technical stuff no one would really appreciate it
But just sounding okay on a kit seems easy as fuck

Honestly some of the best drumming can come from people with no clue how to play them
A basic ability of being able to keep rhythm is essential, but beyond that as long as the drummer has creativity in their approach then anything can work.
Moe Tucker is the shit
LMFAO DEATH GRIPZ.....2.0.... CRAZY GUYS ?
Threads like these make me wonder if I'm getting too old for this place

This.
Although I think >>61038467 has a point. In most cases, it seems like drummers are held to a lower standard than other instrumentalists. I mainly play guitar and drums.
Rhythm theory when? Seriously, I asked my buddy who's in his 3rd year as a drum major at Berklee if there's anything like that and he said no. Said the closest thing is acoustic theory which has to do with how sound travels in venues.
Imagine if rhythm theory were as big as chord theory. I mean if you've ever taken drum lessons, you've probably seen a glimpse of what's possible beyond triplets and sixteenth note patterns/rudiments.
There's a video on yt of Marco Minneman playing with that. I think it's called Nonuplet Pyramid or st. Can't link atm.

Maybe for most pleb rock, but actually get into drumming and you'll find millions of drummers actually put in hours to nail down variations that they can pull out during jams. It's comparable to practicing scales and arpeggios. I worked at a drum shop and have taken a handful of lessons from teachers over the years.
I know being on 4chan puts you in a shitposting mood but look up some moderately advanced lessons on youtube and I think you'll start to see it. Not trying to one up you or anything. Just think you might benefit if you're also a musician, especially if you're a multi-instrumentalist.
>>61038151
Wow, you're a fucking tasteless moron.
>>61038151
If you're arguing skill, Zach Hill's not a good example as there's footage of him putting serious work into his chops that most drummers just wouldn't want to approach. Kinda like how a lot of guitarists don't want to approach Allan Holdsworth's style of guitar playing.
If you really want to argue this point, talk about the pseudo free jazz drummers who don't even attempt to sit in the pocket at all and show no evidence (even unintentionally) that they worked on any drumming patterns that require discipline. There are way too many of these hacks which is part of why most of the jazz world wants nothing to do with them.

Dave Grohl is a pretty shit drummer man
>>61042859
not the same guy but
if you compare him to clinician tier drummers, yes
if you just look at how much time grohl has refined his simple chops over the years then he's pretty good compared to most drummers in the buttrock scene
The Song for the Deaf title track was good shit. Not that difficult to nail with a few hours of playing linear patterns around the hihat foot, but definitely above most of the rock drumming we hear.
zach hill has played backing for a lot of normal shit that isnt mathrock, in case you havent noticed, his catalog of work ranges pretty wide in the kinds of music he has played
What is creativity, other than having lots of random patterns floating around to execute?
