Hey,
I was just like that a couple of years ago. I was a 21-year old college dropout with no friends, living back home, barely able to get myself out of bed most days.
But now? 23 with a six-figure salary doing something I love and a legit 8.5/10 gf. I got a bit lucky getting to where I want so fast, but as long as you're still in your 20's or younger, you can get there if you know what to do. Some suggestions I'd make:
1. Start cultivating a sense of judgment, to the point that you would be willing to trust it on just about any issue over just about anyone (on social matters, having this confidence can be a double reward).
2. Work at perceiving the quiet honor that exists in hard work and self-control. There's a reason that modernity hasn't brought depression rates down: our frame of reference moves up with the society in which we live. There is nothing that would prevent you from having a great time just walking in the woods, if you're strong enough to keep societal pressure out.
3. Forgive yourself for the past.
