Most embarrassing list of all time. It's time for us to kill Pitchfork. no more p4k threads, no more score predictions. the entire list is the most clickbait white-guilt jew loving kekold shit ever.
>>
If you care about the rankings of a song on some irrelevant music website you are a loser
>>
what a fucking joke of a list

D'angelo and Thugger are the only ones who deserve to be on that top 10
>>

The weird thing is, The Blacker the berry is much better than Alright And King kunta, but the latter two are in the top 5. What the fuck
>>
Am I the only one think alright is one of the worst song on tpab
>>
Drake, Chance, The guy that wants to spit on graves...it's happening, meme rap is being taken over by the black bourgeoisie and the cultural marxists are falling for it. Stop upper middle class black men from making rap music now.
>>
>>61022788
It's because blacklivesmatter people chanted Alright at rallies, literally that's the only reason
>>
>>61022725
totally agreed. p4k has turned from irritating hipster website to poptimist pander-to-the-masses bullshit. it fucking hurt to read that list; it's like it came out of buzzfeed.
>>
I'm surprised Alright ended up being the hit song. Pharrell's contribution was minimal, and I'm sure most plebs don't even know he's featured.

King Kunta was an interesting pick, to say the least.

I honestly thought that Wesley's Theory was going to be the big hit.

Yes, p4k is mainstream.
Carles said it was so.
>>
damn birdman was so close to having a top 5 soty on pfork
>>
Depreston
Lift Me Up
Really Love

those are the only not shit songs in the top 10

kill p4k
>>
I dont like rap music that much mu. I remember when Pitchfork used to cater to the indie rock and Kanye that I listened to all my life. Now they are trying to convince me that hotline bling is a good song and i feel like everyone in the world thinks it is except me. Am I autistic? Why aren't my tastes being validated by this blog?
>>
I don't understand why Alright of all songs is the one people are rallying behind. It's so fucking boring and the hook is just boilerplate Pharrell. Not even in the top 10 best songs on that album
>>
>>61022698
>One of the worst songs on the album
>Song of the year
>>
Tame Impala's Eventually should be in the top ten, not Let It Happen

Also 'Alright' isn't the best track off the album, but it is one of the most culturally relevant tracks. I stand by it being no.1.
>>
>>61023006

P4K's SOTY list

1) Kendrick Lamar - "Alright"
2) Drake - "Hotline Bling"
3) Jamie xx - “I Know There’s Gonna Be (Good Times)” [ft. Young Thug and Popcaan]
4) Kendrick Lamar - “King Kunta”
5) Tame Impala - “Let It Happen”
6) Young Thug - “Constantly Hating” [ft. Birdman]
7) Grimes - “Flesh Without Blood”
8) D'Angelo - “Really Love”
9) Courtney Barnett - “Depreston”
10) Vince Staples - “Lift Me Up”
11) Sufjan Stevens - “Should Have Known Better”
12) The Weeknd - "Can’t Feel My Face”
13) Rihanna - “Bitch Better Have My Money”
14) Miguel - “Coffee”
15) Adele - "Hello"
16) Donnie Trumpet & the Social Experiment - “Sunday Candy”
17) Grimes - “REALiTi”
18) Jamie xx - “Gosh”
19) Vince Staples - “Norf Norf”
20) Fetty Wap - “Trap Queen”

Pitchfork felt obligated to put it at number 1 so they could justify making TPAB number 1. At least they're not Rolling Stone.
>>
>>61022698

In my humble opinion, Kendrick could make a song titled "I am a dirty nigger and I eat the ass", and it would still get acclaim.

>>
>>61023063
Are you me?

I don't know why /mu/ hates on album so much (besides being contrarian and making fun of memetano), but I thought people would like it more. GK, MC is a good album, but nearly every song is shit you'd hear on the radio. Every fucking normie loves that album and /mu/ does too. Then Kendrick drops this, with songs directed towards a more "serious" listening, and /mu/ memes it to death.

I'll never get this board. I mean this isn't my favorite 2015 album, but it is up there.

photo of the kek that wrote the blurb about Alright at #1 and brought you great lines such as:

>The world, and America in particular, and for minorities specifically, has experienced a veritable buffet of social garbage.
>"Alright" spoke to black Americans oppressed and murdered, these days so frequently by those on the government payroll and sworn to protect. "We hate popo," Lamar raps, "wanna kill us dead in the streets for sure." It’s a basic sentiment that in this country has become undeniably truer day after day.
>"We gon be alright," an ebulliently simple five-syllable refrain, a future-tense assertion of delivery to a better, more peaceful place. In more than one instance, the song’s chorus was chanted at Black Lives Matter protests. It has soundtracked a movement.
>since the song was released, there’s been the murder of Freddie Gray, the suicide of Sandra Bland, the recent police cover up in Chicago, the shootings in San Bernardino, in Colorado, massacres in Beirut and Paris. Things, may in fact, be getting worse. Will we be alright? Who knows. But we’ll at least be together.

However coined the term "privilege" did a disservice to their cause. I can sympathize with the message, but it sounds very accusatory/alarming. People rationalize this as: "Oh, no one's life isn't easy. Just because I'm white you think I have it easy!?" It would have been more proper to simply say that while everyone leads different lives, white people get treated better.

>>61023207
I know what you mean. I had several friends that didn't play the album until late 2013/early 2014 because they thought it was pretentious rap.

Wesley's Theory is probably my favorite song, and it is really the only song to play at a social gathering. Every other song on the record lacks the energy or mass-appeal GKMC had.

Almost everyone I know told me that gave the album a try, but couldn't really bear it. Not "wild" enough and shit.

It's not necessarily white privilege as much as it's majority privilege. It exists in literally every nation no matter the colour. The most prevalent skin colour, hell ethnicity since colour isn't the only difference (the Irish up until the 80s were still racially profiled around the west, are still profiled in cases in England) will have inherent, subconscious bias towards their own. It's a biological thing.

Hook is janky as fuck with the triplet flow.

This is fair. P4k is no longer a reliable source for recommendations in my opinion, so I'm not influenced either way, but it's become more and more permissible to make mediocre music so long as it's relevant, stylish, etc. More to the point, this is a list of the most popular music from this year.

They realized at some point that they could reach a wider audience by focusing almost solely on the lowest common denominator--top 40 radio pop--because there's the best chance possible that the reader can relate and have a stake in the list. It's completely a marketing tactic. That being said, it scares me that this could represent what the world values in art.

Top 40 appearing on year end lists isn't some thing exclusive to p4k or any other blog/publication (Carly Rae's album is the best example of this) and it has nothing to do with marketing. It's just a result of the way music is presented to the public and the culture of music consumption being completely different from what it was even ten years ago. The indie sphere and the pop sphere have been slowly blurring together for some time now, and the revitalized poptimism we're seeing is just a result of that.

I know the songs list always has more pop than you'd expect, but damn this is mostly pop.

The thing about Pitchfork's scoring and rankings is that, in the past, it's always been based on what's "in the zeitgeist" of its core readership, ie urban hipsters in places like Brooklyn, Austin, Chicago, "cool" kids. This is how it was always one step ahead of the larger population, by looking at who the "influencers" are listening to and judging things based on that. While poptimism is certainly in right now, it's not to THIS extent. In fact punk and DIY stuff has had much more of an upswing this year and last year with that demographic than pop or hip-hop. If they keep going at this rate they'll lose their core demo in a few years and be forced to write solely about pop to get clicks from the larger populace... you know, like Rolling Stone.

C'mon man, I know this might just be some Mongolian cartography community but it does really pain me to see the state of this site these days. Yeah, 4chan was always bad and whatnot, but I've wasted eight years of my life here at this point and even back in 2010 it wasn't this bad. I know it's not my secret clubhouse or anything and I don't care how many people are here but there was a time when people at least would put thought into their shitposts to make them funny instead of regurgitating the same tired memes over and over again. Maybe I'm just taking things too seriously because I used to have genuinely good discussions with people of differing opinions but I don't see why we can't have that back.
