Is there any modern pop music that is as compelling, interesting or important as this?

>compelling, interesting or important
>pop
no
Idunno
That cover looks so full on retarded I've never bothered to ask what it is
>>61002295
>being this close-minded
>>61002302
It's Jai Paul's 'album', pretty much a collection of demos and allegedly unfinished tracks that got leaked.
It's absolutely genius lofi r&b/pop that is like nothing else out there, really.
If this album ever finally drops it could spark a new movement for independent pop music.
>>61002320
This sounds really interesting. Hope you're not memeing.
i have never ever understood the hype behind this
its literally just scraps and shitty demos but he's hailed as a god
>>61002320
>independent pop music.
>signed to XL
nah m8 ur reaching
jai is g0d tho
>>61002320
>If this album ever finally drops it could spark a new movement for independent pop music.
literally how
>>61002347
>Who is Daniel Johnston?
>>61002347
I like it but can kinda see he is overrated
but to be fair it was interesting for it's time and influenced a few artists. You saw more of a sound like this later kinda with James Blake.
BTSU and Jasmine are pretty good catchy pop songs though.
I guess its also that innocence of the "solo producer/songwriter" working from his bedroom praise.
Sometimes people are in the right place at the right time.
>>61002342
No I'm not memeing, the leak has been one of the worst things in recent memory of independent music as the full project may never actually drop.
>>61002347
The lo-fi sound isn't the result of them being demos, that's his actual style. The 'scraps' are more like interludes. It's closer to being a finished project than you think.
>>61002347
the demos are really the album, but XL probably told jai they couldn't clear the samples so he "leaked" them
Jai's style is like a perfect blend of everything.
has this recent past nostalgia thing we all love but the way he records and produces sounds like you're hearing a brand new tune premiering on the radio for the first time.
man is a genius

Skeptical anon here. thanks guys. I must admit that when I first gave it a listen, I was under the impression that it wasn't even his stuff - that was the rumour going around at the time. I'll give it another go with a fresh mindset. Cheers. and yeah jasmine demo will always be the jam
>>61002357
I feel like if XL had any real influence on him his sound would be different, he has too much originality and risk-taking to be allowed anything less than full artistic control by the label, you know?
The lack of media presence, the unorthodox approach to his music; it all *feels* independent.
Even though it's not.
>>61002366
It's a distinctly British take on an established form of music, taking pop and stripping it of its accessibility. The Brits have a knack for creating underground movements that pride themselves on being raw.
It happened with grime, why not pop?
>>61002394
yeah I see that, same with Burial and shit. I hold out hope that there is still massive potential in his music, that the ship hasn't sailed.
>>61002404
D'you think? Woah.
>>61002470
>It's a distinctly British take on an established form of music, taking pop and stripping it of its accessibility
sounds like what dean blunt & inga have been doing since 2010

>>61002617
clammy clams is good but I just think jai's demos in terms of producing and songwriting put clams to shame.
>>61002276
Is this thread a joke? It reminds me of when people used to post saying the weekend was a visionary.
>>61002648
>clammy clams is good but I just think jai's demos in terms of producing and songwriting put clams to shame.
>>61002659

>>61002679
thats nothing new, he's been doing that shit for awhile. it's just the media is giving it coverage
god's father was his last real effort
>>61002500
unlike hype williams Jai Paul is making heartfelt shit, rather than poking fun at music in general.
has anyone got a link for jai? I cant find a good one
after the 400th time listening to the album the lyrics feel kind of stale.
>>61002276

>important
How is this album important?
it's a decent album but the fact that you called it important just proves to me that you're just throwing around buzzwords
