are you retarded? "produced by" isn't nearly as good of a marketing hook. I can think of maybe 5 producers where I would just listen to things because they were involved in production. On top of that it takes incredible talent to create a unique sound in your productions that people like. It's just easier and a better use of time to look for bands and band members than producers.

Because when there is a faceman who represents the music talking to the camera with lyrics it's way more moving to the average consumer of popular media than electronic or hip hop music being created by some figure who may not even be present at a clip, and even if so, word-less music does not allow for that much of a visual representation of the artist as the creator of the music. Every once in a while a producer of "wordless" music manages to do what said rappers do, like Aphex Twin, who made his own face a symbol of his music, but mostly this kind of music generates more symbolic and less "one man speaking" imagery

I think vocals get shit because vocals are the least important part of how an album sounds but since they're voices instead of instruments they are the first thing most people will notice about a song and so they end up having a huge influence on people's opinions and everything else just refines the feeling you get from the vocals even if it is 90% of the actual song.
