Seriously, is there a jazz album better than "The Black Saint And The Sinner Lady"?
It's fucking perfect. Every note in it. Even the names in the title/songs create an unique symbology which is a perfect match for its music's own symbology.
It's been released in the same year of the famous Martin Luther King speech.
It's a revolt; it's perfect; it's timeless: a true master piece!
Also, general Jazz thread.
Scaruffit please go
also there is already a jazz general, so delete this thread so you can post babby's first avant-garde there

Pic related, OP. It's the closest thing I've ever had to spirituality.
As mainstream as it is, Ascension is my favorite album overall.

Not even Pithecanthropus Erectus (His best).

Ah Um is better

Explain to me specifically what is good about the album OP. So far all you've said is that every note is perfect (a vague and easy claim to make about any album) and some cryptic shit about song title symbology.

This is a fine album, but one of the greats? Hell no.
The only reason this album is getting any attention whatsoever is because Kamasi has worked with Kendrick and Flying Lotus. The fact that you actually think this is better than anything else posted in this thread is crazy.

Not to mention the fact that everything about the album has been contrived to appeal to young jazz hip hop fans with a vintage faux-spiritual/cosmic aesthetic.

You have to admit though, regardless of what you think of the music, he's a marketing genius who knows exactly how to appeal to his target audience.
He's also done it in such a way that allows him to tour around the place playing music that he probably has a great time playing and which his fans will go wild for irrespective of how good his soloing is on any given night.
He's living the dream.

True. Will he still be living that dream in 5 years though? We'll see
This is my favourite jazz record by far. Can anyone rec me more like this? tight playing with a cool and fun atmosphere
