the chord progression in this song i'm working on right now goes like this -
0 - 0 - 8 - 9 - 9 - 0
0 - 0 - 6 - 7 - 7 - 0
0 - 0 - 1 - 2 - 2 - 0

where can i go from there?

So I've got an amp with 4, 8, and 16 outputs, one of each. Is there any way I can run 2 cabs if both of the cabs only have one input? I only ask because I remember some of the old Sunns that had and 8 and a 16 could be still be run with a 16 ohm cab hooked up to each?

I think Gibsons are overrated to a degree. They're nice guitars, but you can find MIJ clones that play and sound just as good, not to mention if you know which Epiphones to get you can cop a Gibson authorized copy that's as good, if not better, then some of the shit coming out of the Gibson factory in the past 10 or so years.
>>
>>60975246

>muh hendrix
>>
>>60975337
I still don't understand the reasoning behind that. It's not like I only listen to Misfits, and I sure as hell don't listen to them because of their originality
When I said no innovative music exists anymore I was mainly joking, but you can't deny that creating original music is a lot harder than it was in the past
>>
>>60975336
I dunno. I personally like my 2015 and I feel like people shit on the G-force WAY too much.
Definitely not as nice as old ones but also definitely still fantastic guitars.
>>
>>60973502

>>
>>60975443
Please refrain from shoving words in my mouth. I never said I can't create original music - and I never said nobody can either.

I listen to them because they're the one first band that got me into music and because they're an excellent punk rock band
>>
>>60975537
Yeah you did you back pedaling mothefucker. I doubt I'd have enough room to fit words in your mouth with Jerry onlys dick taking up permanent residence.

>they're an excellent punk rock band

>>

>>
>>60975699
You're already on par with most bassists, go for it
>>
>>60975661
Prove that I said that. Quote the exact part of my post where I said it because honestly I can't remember. I must have Alzheimer's.
Misfits are an outstanding punk band. They have a good sound, they're catchy, they have simple yet interesting/different lyrics with a great vocalist. I'm talking about the original Misfits with Danzig, of course. And Jerry Only is one of the biggest cunts I could ever think of. Wanna stay here all night arguing because someone enjoys something and you don't?
>>
>>60975337
>>60975661
Also,
>They're the epitome of bland and derivative music
They literally created a genre of their own
>>
>>60975745
I doubt you have Alzheimer's, I've never heard of someone developing it at the age of 15, but I guess anything is possible. I couldn't care less about you likening the misfits, I know tons of people that like shitty music and you're just one more. As for them being good, that's wrong. They're not good, not catchy, not clever, and hardly even punk.

>>60975845
The world's most boring band created the world's cheesiest genre full of pompadors and puns. No thanks.
>>
>>60975891
You are obviously horribly frustrated so I'm not even going to keep taking you seriously. There are better ways to cope with your depression, you could be drinking and smashing cars or fucking mainlining hard drugs, you'll never get rid of all that anger if the only thing you do is talk shit to people with different musical opinions
And the fact that you don't like them, or the genre they spawned (and I don't fucking like it either, incidentally they're the only horror punk band I like) means jack shit. You can't deny facts - their originality is a fact. So have a good night Jacob, be careful not to spill tears on your computer or you'll probably damage it
>>
>>60975988
You actually seem mad. My bad bro. I thought we were having a legitimate discussion about music, then you start making assumptions and hurling insults.

Usually bring up 5150s and 6505s when people mention drone doom and bwooom tones. Threw this up yesterday. Using a separate preamp, but most of the tones heft is volume from the 6505.

I can do another that's straight 6505 if anyone wants.

Funny you say that. The patch is called Burning Tone and most of the riffs were badly played sections of Tower Place.

>What are you settings like for that
Pic related it the settings on the fuzz pedal. It's basically a Rams Head Big Muff without the mid scoop. AxeFX is running a JTM-45 sim, gain 4, bass 6, mid 4.5, treb 5, presence 6.

Got a 500ms delay and a small spring after that, mixes are only set to 15% and 20% respectively though.

Then it's going out to the 6505 with the volume around 4.

The leads on that patch come out pretty well too. Have you forgive my shit playing, still learning how again.

I played a 2016 LP Studio a few weeks back and it was OK, but it didn't impress me much. Had a nice satin finish, sounded ok, but it didn't impress me any more than the Epi I played with the satin back and neck I played the same GC visit. And the thing that bothers me most about Gibsons compared to good Epiphones or MIJ clones is the fucking fret nibs in the binding. If I accidentally do too wide a vibrato, it sounds shitty because the string hops over that miniscule dip and you can hear it. Don't get me wrong, my favorite guitar is the Les Paul, and I love SGs, Explorers, Flying Vs (while standing at least), and their arch tops are amazing.

MY BASSWOOD TRIPS WILL END YOUUU

So I've offered to buy this 2008 Super Sonic head for $450, is this a good deal? It's in mint condition and Barkley unplayed too and I like the drive and the 60 watt handling is a bonus as well.

I've been using ernie ball hybrid slinkies (9-46) on my strat but I've been thinking about upgrading to maybe a set of standard 11s. How hard would it be to get used to it? Will it damage the guitar/neck, etc.? Do they it really sound better?
>>
>>60980417
The sound better thing is very debated. I feel they do sound better for me, but there are a lot of people who got amazing tone with super thin strings while there are others who used really heavy strings who sounded like shit. Personally I just like the feel of heavier strings much more; I can't play on 9s.

I recommend you play 10s for a bit before you go to 11s. Changing your string gauge is VERY noticeable and will take some adjusting.
>>
>>60980417
Depends on what you play. .11s are generally used for jazz or heavy metal/rock. I use a set of .10s on my Strat and I generally find they strike a nice balance for the sort of music I do (lead work, prog rock, fusion). A thicker string gauge isn't necessarily an upgrade per se, unless the strings you're using for a particular style of music just aren't cutting it (i.e. trying to get beefy "chugging" rhythm tones with a set of .8s).

If you're looking for a versatile string set I recommend the Ernie Ball "Skinny Top, Heavy Bottom" set. The lightest three strings will still be easy to bend while you can still get a nice pronounced rhythm tone from the wound strings.
>>
>>60980024
Trial and error, my friend. Pretty much as long as you don't force anything it's actually difficult to fuck up irreparably. Adjust the truss rod a quarter turn max every time and don't strip your screws and you're golden. And if you fuck it up worse as long as you didn't force anything (can't stress that enough especially with the truss rod), someone qualified can fix it easily. I never understood guitarists that can't set their own gear up, a tech is going to set it to the lowest possible action without buzz and for some players that's not ideal. I prefer a slightly higher action as it enables me to easier mute strings with the edge of a fretting finger without accidentally fretting the string, plus it makes sweep picking easier because I don't have to completely let a string go to mute it, I can just ease the pressure and that'll usually kill the note quietly. I realize you're a bassist, but I've been playing bass for 13 years as well, just not seriously in almost 10. However, I still remember how to set up a bass and it's not that difficult.
>>
>>60977507

>implying
>>
>>60980417
It's all personal preference. I prefer stainless .10s on my Les Paul that I tune to Eb or D standard depending on my mood, but I've got my Kelly strung up with stainless 13s in B. With the Paul in Eb, it's about the same tension, with the 13s maybe being a hair tighter but not enough to make a difference to my fingers. I notice a little more slackness in D, but it's still not that big, like the difference between an electric with 9s and 10s.

I'd also add before you do anything to try to fix, remove the strings, loosen the truss rod till it's completely slack and allow it to sit 24-48 hrs allowing the neck to relax(I can't tell you how many I've saved over the years just by doing this, every kid just keeps tightening them just short of breaking or stripping, then gives up.), clean everything, restring and start set-up. re-check after a couple days just to make sure everything's how you like it.

Honestly they sound world's apart. The Circuits were so vastly changed during the 60's. The Blackface/Silverface amps have much higher headroom and don't really distort in the same way. The only Bassman of that era with a 4x10 cabinet (Bassman 10) is from what I've heard not a very good amp. However, they take pedals incredibly well

If you're replacing the 3rd with the 4th, I think you're essentially playing an inversion of a minor 7th chord.

I think it's a common jazz chord substitution.

For example, instead of playing G7, you can play a Dm 7th.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.
>>
>>60983793
is it G11 or G7

but no G7/11?
>>
>>60983793

I think it's an extension not a substitution

(like Ab7 can take place of a G7 in a compound dominant cadence)
>>
>>60983701
I think you'd be looking for an envelope filter.

>tfw trying to get low-action bass w/o Zimbabwe-ass fret buzz killing me
Anyone have any tips?
>>
>>60986051
remove the frets
there's no fret buzz if there's no fret
>>
>>60986051
there's really no trick to it, as long as your truss rod is adjusted properly (very slight bow) you need level frets.

the reason higher action is less fret-buzzy is due to the basic principles of the instrument. necks are angled, when you push down on a fret you need clearance on the frets above it so the string will vibrate without getting cut off. if the neck was completely straight the instrument would be a series of dead notes. raising the action makes that clearance larger.

tl;dr to get a low action without excessive fret buzz you need very level frets
>>
>>60986130
You can play chords on a Bass, right? Because Fretless things don't do chords well.
>>
>>60987004
A lot of people hate chords on bass, I never got why, they're fine as long as you don't abuse them.
You can play chords on a fretless instrument though, it's just going to be really hard to be precise, especially on something with the scale of a bass. But you have the advantage of being able to "glide" that chord up and down like you would with a tremolo (although you're not as accurate)

Gibsons are a later level brand, man. How long have you been playing? How much do you have to spend? With Gibson you're paying for the name quite often; you can get better guitars for the same price. However, they still have their qualities, especially if you get an older model.

The more expensive Epiphones are sort of alright but they're not great. Classic Vibe Squiers are better at that price point.

Also, don't buy a guitar just because you feel you should (e.g. it fits your genre, your heroes play them, you think a player like you should play them). Those are all good reasons to try one or a few out, but it's not a reason why you SHOULD own one. Just go to the store and try out a whole lot of guitars and try to find something that speaks to you. If a store doesn't let you try a whole lot of guitars it's a shit store and you should go somewhere else.

If you can afford a Gibson go for it, but a high end Epi is gonna be nicer than a similarly priced Gibson. An Epi LP standard runs like 300 and sounds great with better pickups and wiring. Source: Pic related, though you'll probably get more sustain than I do from mine because of my bastardized Accutune with half the parts replaced with Kahler parts.
Now I have my own question, does anyone know any places I could find fine tuners for this kind of bridge? It's not a true Kahler so I don't think official fine tuners will fit. I got it with a Schaller Floyd nut but I can't practically lock it because I can't manipulate the hex screws that keep the string anchors back enough to keep the strings from falling out.

If you are committed to keep playing and have the money I see no issue on getting the Gibson.
This is not a power level bs where you have to go from guitar to guitar.

I personally think that there are better guitars for the money. I'd follow this advice >>60991895
Go to a store and try guitars, I didn't even care for an Ibanez RG 655 until I played it. Later I got one and I don't regret it.

go to a guitar store
try every fucking guitar in your budget
buy your favorite
the guitar you think you'll like is almost never the guitar you actually like
