Is Springsteen a meme, or a legitimate legend?

I never gave him a listen until last night, and I must say he is probably the best storyteller in music history. The river is an objective 9/10
>>
I'm glad storytelling is considered the core of music, instead of the sounds.
>>
>>60968690
Meme Demarco copied this album artwork format
>>
he's worthy of legend status alongside bob dylan and neil young

>is a dream a lie if it don't come true
>or is it something worse
>>
He's a legend to normies who listen to most of their music on the radio. That should tell you everything you need to know.
>>
>>60968836
Can't there be some music that can be lauded by /mu/ and normies alike?
>>
>>60968836

why so contrarian?
>>
>>60968690
yes he's legit good
if you want some more excellent storytelling i'd suggest Nebraska next
>>
Genuine rock legend, only faggots trying to distance themselves from their father's taste disagree
>>
>>60968690
born to run is 10/10
>>
>muh forced romanticised passionate singing and lyrics
>>
>>60969018
Not if you're a contrarian who gets off on drawing lines on what's legitimate and what's not as a way to validate their false-sense of superiority on a message board that just wants to enjoy music for the sake of enjoying music.

Springsteen is fantastic and his work can be readily imbibed without being shortchanged substance.
>>
He's a legitimately fantastic artist with a lot of great albums although tryhards on /mu/ will say Nebraska is his best.
>>
>>60968690
>The river is an objective 9/10
i like springsteen a lot but the river seemed like it didn't need to be a double album
>>
>>60969333
This, it's like they haven't even heard Darkness on the Edge of Town.
>>
>>60968690
>tfw I'm going to see him on his River anniversary tour next year
>>
>>60968690
>Is Springsteen a meme, or a legitimate legend?

1. The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle (1973) [9/10]
2. Born to Run (1975) [8/10]
3. Nebraska (1982) [8/10]
4. The River (1980) [7/10]
5. Darkness on the Edge of Town (1978) [7/10]

He's coming to Cleveland, I live in Columbus. If I find someone to go with, I'll probably go. I've never been to a concert before, no one better to break their cherry with than the boss
>>
>>60969426
>tfw logged onto Ticketmaster at EXACTLY 10am and there were already no more tickets

FUck Ticketmaster. Fuck scalpers. Fuck Ticketmaster. Fuck scalpers. Fuck Ticketmaster. Fuck scalpers. Fuck Ticketmaster. Fuck scalpers.
>>
I don't really like Springsteen -especially when a fucking saxophone honks its way into his songs- but he is a legend.

Thunder Road is probably the best ever classic rock song.
>>
>>60970164
Born to Run is just the best classic rock album on the whole.

Seriously. It's the obvious example, but think about Jungleland. There's no other instrument that could've played that solo, a guitar solo that slowly paced and languid would've just sounded awkward. I guess a synthesizer could've done it if the song was written ten years later, but then it would lose that rich, soulful throaty sound it needs.
>>
Jungleland gets me going every time I listen to it.

I'm just saying, '70s era 'steen could have done with a little less blaring sax.

Or maybe I just hate "Rosalita."

If I had to name an un-hateable song, Rosalita would've been near the top of my list.

bruce springsteen is who america would put up to represent their shitty country if they were smart.
>>
>>60971318
I read an article somewhere claiming that he might be the only American rock star who could make a stab at entering politics and actually be taken seriously.
>>
>>60970832
Cool who asked you to do that again?
>>
he's an american classic. even if a lot of his stuff is faked and made up, he still hits middle american really close to home.

songs like "one step up" are seriously deep blue collar.

Bruce was only popular to mainstream audiences after born in the usa, get ur facts right shmuck, even born to run didn't get as much popularity until afterwards.

Bruce is the GOAT

The Seeger sessions is his most underrated album in his discography. Probably one of the best american folk albums out there (actual folk not white dude strumming a acoustic guitar talking about how sad he is).
>>
>>60971739
I did not know this was a thing and now I'm very excited to check it out. thx anon
>>
For all of the bullshit that goes on here, it's fucking sweet that so many people here love Bruce Springsteen. People could fall for the 'it's dadrock' meme, or the 'it's really simple' meme, or the 'it's emotional' meme, or even the 'not agreeing with his politics' meme. But for the most part the music shines through all of that. Music really can be a universal language.
>>
>>60971820
there are lots of Bruce haters on here

many don't get Born in the USA and that's their only point of contention
>>
anyone else get into his stuff through Nebraska? Admittedly I always thought of him as the shitty "BORN IN THE USA" guy, but a friend of mine was always talking about Nebraska so I checked it out. It blew me away, and then I got into his other stuff and felt like an idiot for ignoring it.
>>
>>60971396
Born to Run was critically acclaimed and went to #3 on the Billboard album charts in a time when album sales actually meant something.
There was some bootlegging going on but but every sale was indeed a sale at that time and albums were not overly cheap. The only real way to purchase singles at time were on 45 RPM vinyl. I was about 13 years old when "Born to Run" was released. It was/is a great album

I found the vinyl boxset of this for a couple bucks at a thrift store. It's ridiculously long but I need to listen to it some more.

Road trips, anon. I know you said vinyl, but seriously, it's the best possible way to kill three-and-a-half hours driving on the highway.

Why are you questioning it? Hes a legend.

born in the usa is the epitome of boring mid tempo rock album

Everyone should see Springsteen if they have a chance, man. The man's as close to being a national treasure as a person can get, nobody ever left one of his concerts disappointed or feeling alone.
>>
I'd like to mention that Scaruffi too considers this album a masterpiece.
