Did you ever have a metalcore phase?
>>
>>60962448
Of course. Thankfully it was mercifully short and I discovered hardcore/real metalcore real soon.
>>
I'm about to make a metalcore band because we can't find a singer and I'm a lazy guitarist.
>>
>>60962448
God thanks no, my parents always said I skipped my rebellious teen phase
>>

This. I remember in jr. high I was into it for a month, but then I discovered hardcore and blackmetal
>>
>>60962467
>>60962510
What exactly is "hardcore"?

Growing up, I called pretty much anything with screaming and breakdowns hardcore. Now I picture stuff more on part with The Greenery and Trash Talk when people say hardcore.
>>
>>60962448
No, thank fuck
>>
>>60962448
>no hardcore/nu metal phase
feels good man

feels bad that i had the thrash phase instead, i was essentially the slayer fan stereotype
>>
>>60962448
nah, it was a nu metal phase
>>
no. although im having a emo phase right now, dont know how i feel about that
>>
I liked Converge, Dillinger Escape Plan and Rollo Tomassi around two years ago, idk all those guys are alright, never liked the shitty mainstream metalcore bands though
>>
>>60962448
i used to listen to bring me the horizon, august burns red and iwrestledabearonce when i was like 16. i was really picky about metal core though, i couldn't stand anything with clean vocals (iwabo being an exception though, i'm still a fan of krysta cameron)
>>
>>60962612
iwrestledabearonce just put out an album this year. They pretty much dropped all the goofy stuff and went full on deathcore.
>>
metalcore is fucking tasteless
>>
>>60962531
Hardcore punk. That could be Black Flag, or Converge, or Husker Du.

Still sounds like it's a pretty loosely defined genre.

Not really. I liked Converge and Botch at one point. Still do actually. The only scene metalcore band I ever really liked were Killswitch Engage if you even count them.

I forgot most people on /mu/ only listen to whatever is currently being passed around their college campus.
>>
>>60962531
Really, really wide genre,
in simplest terms yeah it's just hardcore punk, so punk music that is heavier/faster/'harder'.
This means that genres which can also fall under the term 'hardcore' can be as far-flung as youth crew, d-beat, powerviolence, certain emo, screamo, and multitudes of other subgenres.

You start getting into the distinctions between metallic hardcore, punkier hardcore, left-of-field hardcore, metalcore which is actually hardcore,
and so on and so forth.
It's all confusing and there's no real consensus.

But yes Trash Talk are a hardcore band, and I think some of their early stuff is also regarded as powerviolence.

yup, early 2000's. Poison the Well, From Autumn to Ashes, Skycamefalling, Hopesfall. Those were the more melodic bands I liked. PTW are still great too.

Yeah i did and it was fun enough. My metalhead days were rather quick, and i started listening to metalcore bands. Still listen from time to time, still enjoy some bands i guess
>>
>>60962448
I always thought it was a really boring and tasteless genre of "metal". Of course I enjoyed a few songs from Parkway Drive, but no more than that. Metalcore and all those wannabe Meshuggah djent bands are truly bringing shame upon the whole genre of metal. It's almost like people are expecting to hear Asking Alexandria when you mention metal.
>>
>>60962448
I have always hated it but I'm starting to tolerate some bands now

It would however be really hilarious if scenecore appreciation was the next step after poptimism

>>

I mean, they're a deathcore band, dude. Deathcore has always been about 2edgy4u lyrics and br00tal chugs
>>
not yet. progcore/mathcore seems pretty cool iah but im not as interested in noodling these days

>>60963820

I loved August Burns Red. I still kinda do. But I never liked the emo shit that most metalcore is. I didn't like metalcore made for teenage girls like Bring Me The Horizon.

I never got into shitty scene metalcore. I thought all metalcore was shit for a long time though. I got into Starkweather and Integrity in the late 2000's and that majorly changed my opinion.

Pierce the Veil makes some pretty good music. Their Collide with the Sky album has some neat instrumentals.
>>
>>60964016
Because they get labelled as metalcore which automatically puts them in that group, though if I remember right they don't see themselves as metalcore. Or maybe they labelled themselves as melodic metalcore, I can't remember, something like that anyway.

By trying to support themselves without the help of a label? You mean bands actually try to make a living? You mean those bands that suddenly do automatically become "greedy cunts" because you take their music and content for granted?

On that note, Protest the Hero wasn't ever metalcore (maybe Kezia).

I was the Christcore kid for a while. I listened to The Devil Wears Prada, Attack Attack, blessthefall, Demon Hunter, As I Lay Dying, etc. Nowadays I really only listen to The Dillinger Escape Plan and the occasional Cave In. I'm more of a sludge metal guy now
