Looking for a new amp guys. Something small (15W range) that has tons of gain on tap. Not feeling $2000 for the Mark V 25, but I've heard good things about the Orange Dark Terror and the Peavey 6505+ mini. My only concern is the lack of channel switching on the Orange.

Thoughts?

Just put some extra light Martins (.010) on my steel string acoustic and I have to say that it sounds a lot more quiet, a LOT less bass-y, and the notes sound a lot more flat.

Is it supposed to be this shit? Why the fuck would anyone want these?
>>
>>60956692
>Is it supposed to be this shit?
Yes. Light gauge strings only exist for people with baby hands who need to sacrifice good tone to be able to play with their weak sausages

What kind of strings should I get for that nice sweet loud bass? Are mediums good (.013 i think)?

i've been jamming with my drummer friend. we're starting a band, or at least trying to. we have 1 song done and 3 about half-done. once they're all ready to go our friend is going to record us in his home studio. can't think of a band name though. we don't like any of each other's ideas.

Hopefully yeah. I technically am considered to have brain damage now. No one is really sure how much extra function I'm going to get back. Fingers crossed though hey.

$1000-1200 is average, but that's the sound you're hearing.

>432hrz is not a western tuning and doesn't souns like a bunch of random sounds

>A=432 Hz, known as Verdi’s ‘A’ is an alternative tuning that is mathematically consistent with the universe. Music based on 432Hz transmits beneficial healing energy, because it is a pure tone of math fundamental to nature.

>This tuning was unanimously approved at the Congress of Italian musicians in 1881 and recommended by the physicists Joseph Sauveur and Felix Savart as well as by the Italian scientist Bartolomeo Grassi Landi.
In contrast, the frequency chosen in London in 1953 as the worldwide reference frequency and which all music today has been tuned to, has come to be defined as ‘disharmonic’ because it has no scientific relationship to the physical laws that govern our universe.

Yeah, but there's a limit to what you can get from YouTube reviews - sometimes you really need to hear them live and feel how they react to your playing - I've certainly been disappointed with gear that I've ordered online that sounded great in reviews

It's worth the extra effort to get something that works properly for you.

I spent ages playing compressors a while ago doing side by side tests and found the one I thought I was going to get (Dyna comp) I hated live. Ended up with a Boss which does what I want better than the Strymon which was 3 time the price

Alright. For your purposes here are my recs.
Low budget:
Digitech Digiverb
Line 6 Verbzilla

These are very nice for the price and will give you great results.

Mid budget:
Boss RV6 (it also has a delay+verb mode)
Digitech Supernatural/Polara
EQD Dispatch Master

High budget:
Neunaber Stereo Wet

I believe that the wet is the best reverb available on the market. But the Boss comes suprisingly close. If you have a bit less money to invest. Just get the RV6, it is fantastic

>>
>>60960663
Nah. It's very disappointing, especially compared to others in its price range. The toneprint feature is great, but inlike the flashback, the reverb engine is very uninspiring.
>>
>>60959612

those reverbs have very long decay times, its not really 'wetness' -that would describe more of a spring type of reverb that has a really percussive attack and a short sharp/boingy decay

I'd look at pedals with long decays times like mr black supermoon, plate reverb type pedals like catalinbread talisman...polara had a really nice plate setting
>>
>>60960698
For music production? Pretty much everything can be done better in my DAW on Windows. Software and hardware side.
The big one is Linux has no support for most of my rack equipment which can be (and is very useful) controlled via USB on Windows. A side effect of that is reamping becomes unnecessarily difficult.

Outside of that? Most desktop environments besides GNOME 2 and OpenBox annoy me, and I've almost always had various issues with OpenGL and my HDD clusters.

If I want to nitpick, the server work I used it for required me to hook to X anyway, so it ended up making more sense in the long-run to Windows for the added stability and sacrificing system resources to the Microsoft demons.

Happy?
>>
>>60960717
Yeah I had a HOF, it was not a very good reverb compared to otherstuff in its price range like the polara, hardwire supernatural or rv-7.
>>
>>60960449
Yeah check out Song X with Ornette Coleman to hear what I'm talking about.

My gear:
US Fender Stratocaster Sunburst w/ Rosewood neck - some crappish 100W Peavy Amp (I'm losing my faith in Electric guitar desu)
Takamine GD10CE-NS Steel String Semi-Acoustic (my love right now)

Desired gear:
A 12 string guitar - http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/EF381SC
Was looking at this, but I think it might be discontinued because I can't find them on the Takamine website. Anyone know solid 12 string makers?

Been playing since I was about 11, and I'm 17, just about to turn 18 now. I didn't play for a year in between and at one point when I was 12-13 I thought I was shit hot on Electric cause' I was playing Hendrix and learning solos by ear shit. Yeah I learnt mostly by ear - now I'm starting to use tabs and shit. Can't read music.

Fav guitarists:
Jimi Hendrix, Tommy Emmanuel, Akihiro Tanaka, Sungha Jung, Bit of Martin Taylor, Sam Westphalen - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adKeJahZGt0 digging this hard out right now

Projects:
Writing music at the moment. I'm stuck because of what I mentioned above. I like learning songs and all but, I get really bored very fast. I learn something in a few days and get bored. I take what I learn from those songs, whether it be new chord shapes or plucking/strumming patterns and write my own shit..as does everyone really. I'm stuck 'cause I can't read music and know the...ins and outs of certain keys and that so...it limits what I could do, not knowing there could be this really mad string to play or really mad chord to strum that I could add to my progressions. Anyway....I'm gonna give those links a look.

As for DEs I liked GNOME 2 but it's gone now. I forget what the remake was called. Beryl (did it become Compiz?) was kind of cool for general use workflow back when I had one 1280x1024 monitor, but it's become redundant for me in the world of multiple monitor setups.

OS elitism is fucking stupid, use what fits your needs.

>Pretty much everything
I thought I made myself clear mate

>The big one is Linux has no support for most of my rack equipment which can be (and is very useful) controlled via USB on Windows
This is the downside of shopping for proprietary crap. You'd be stuck on that platform even if you wanted to change.

I firmly believe that the platform can't be held responsible for what the third party developers and manufacturers do but in the end, if it doesn't support it, it doesn't. So here, that's your valid argument.

>If I want to nitpick, the server work I used it for required me to hook to X anyway, so it ended up making more sense in the long-run to Windows
I fail to see how it makes "more sense", seriously. You need a display manager for your server machine so you might as well run the one that's worse at everything server-related? Because it comes bundled by default?

Unless you're running an AD based network or something, it just boggles the mind.

>I thought I made myself clear mate
Cling to that if you want, but GENERAL functionality is behind. The workflow, plugins, MIDI support, interface support, I/O support, etc, etc, etc.

>This is the downside of shopping for proprietary crap. You'd be stuck on that platform even if you wanted to change.
>Proprietary crap
I use what I use because most of it is the best at what it does. Linux is the weak link here, it works on everything else.

>I firmly believe that the platform can't be held responsible for what the third party developers and manufacturers do
In this case I pretty much can. The developers have made the drivers and software for MAC and Windows. The market share for Linux is irrelevant in this industry so they didn't make a driver--why would they? As a result it becomes a problem with Linux. Unless developers see value in it there will always be support issues.

>You need a display manager
Hook to X. Not use X. Have you never used Windows based server software in Linux before? You just run the back end of X and hook the software into it. It leads to stability issues because you're jury rigging it actually work.

Like I said, OS elitism is fucking stupid. If you want to use Linux for production, then power to you, but coming here and trying to have a bitch fit at people for using Windows or MAC is a waste of your time, as well as mine. Get your head out your ass and talk about guitars with us, or go make a thread on /g/.

okay if you want real advice. A cheap way to make your shit sound jazzy is to take the pentantonic scale (i, III, iv, v, VI) and add a flat 5th. E.G. if you're playing in Am, add D# as a passing note. It gives it a bit of a jazz vibe just because it's a chromatic note. You can also take your pentatonic shapes and 'fill in' so to speak the notes between the pentatonic notes as passing notes.
>>
>>60961155
>That's more or less my point, glad someone else gets it.
I've self-produced albums and recorded demos on software that can be used on Linux.

But if I wanted to get serious, I'd go to an actual studio and work with an engineer/producer and learn their tricks of the trade.
>>
>>60961073
I'm not sure what it is with TC Electronic pedals, but they all seem to zap something about your tone, or put some kind of mushy dullness into your signal. I had that impression with the HOF, Mojomojo and flashback I had.

I think the digitech polara delay is probably the direct competitor to the flashback. Boss have some neat digital delays.

In my experience, its always better to go for one pedal that does something really specific and well than to go for a pedal that has a jack of all trades thing.
>>
>>60961052
if you run a studio you're probably looking for some sort of guarantee behind your massively expensive purchases, be that 24/7 support, assurance that it'll work as advertised for as long as guaranteed and continuous firmware/software updates

in that case, then yes, it makes perfect sense to run OS X or even Windows. business is business.

but in your bedroom, where you're not going to need ultra sophisticated quality of life features and can definitely benefit from spare time, personal ingenuity and lack of deadlines, you are only hurting yourself by running the "industry" standard stuff

plus you're going to perpetuate the kind of deeply ingrained habits that makes the software industry so awful and anti-consumer once you do go professional

>The workflow
this is entirely subjective. many people in 3d shit on blender for being a pain to use. yet those who spend the time to learn have nothing but praise for it. the same is true for ardour (or bitwig if you're loaded).

>MIDI support
okay, you're gonna have to elaborate here.

>interface support / I/O support
just as long as your hardware is standard compliant it'll work out of the box with zero setup necessary

it's when you buy the special snowflake defective-by-design shit that you'll run into issues

>Unless developers see value in it there will always be support issues.
the chicken-and-egg argument is a cop out. if the users see value in it then so will the developers. hell, this is why OS X is used at all even though the desktop market share is also tiny, and also why linux is growing in hollywood as well.

"it's not going to happen because it's not happening already". fuck this line of thought.

>Like I said, OS elitism is fucking stupid

Sounds like the kind of problem that could be solved with a buffer, Guthrie Govan has a ditto, flashback and HOF on his pedalboard but doesn't sound like you say.

Can't be assed typing it up on my phone, but an easy example would be my AxeFX. I like Derek Bailey for trying something new in his time but I feel like he indirectly ruined free jazz guitar with his "non-idiomatic" approach. It gave any hack a free pass to not bother trying to learn to play traditionally before experimenting. Now we have him to thank for the dozens of talentless "noise" guitarists aimlessly wanking passing themselves off as free improvisers.

I don't consider him a free jazz guitarist because his playing isn't really rooted in the jazz idiom and it wasn't intended to be. There is a serious lack of free jazz guitarists that can actually play straight ahead like most of the free jazz greats could on other instruments.

I am seriously considering ordering this

Who else produces MM/P 4 string basses?
>>
>>60964048
Well, it's not bad per se, but TC's pedals are a bit on the unreliable side and there are some better options for your money. I'd suggest the Boss RV-6, Digitech Polara or Supernatural.

Guys help
I'm in love with teles, but I'm a little afraid of single coils since I use to play a lot of hi gain stuff
wat do?
>>
>>60964468
there's nothing forcing you to own only one guitar

if you're broke then just get a MiM tele and something else with humbuckers
>>
>>60964507
But I can't switch guitars mid-song while playing live
>>
>>60964554
no but you can switch in-between songs

do I really have to explain to a gigging musician the advantages of owning multiple instruments
>>
>>60964554
Get a tele and pop some singlecoil spaced humbuckers in it.
>>
>>60964468
Hot railsssssssss
>>
>>60964591
But anon, songs have both hi gain sections and clean sections that would sound magnificient on a tele
I know the advantages of owning multiple instruments, I would carry my SG anyways
>>
>>60964673
Well here's my advice. Get the tele, treat yourself. If it works for your material then good. If it doesn't than you might be able to compensate with some other piece of gear. If not then you have a tele that you can have fun with and sell back for the same price you paid.

These fellas use a Tele.

>jacksonjs32dka, voxsdc33, gibson les paul studio - yamaha THR5, orange 20w crush - ibanez ts9 tubescreamer, zoom 2020

>i really want that tone city "sweet cream" pedal, would also like to try a dog's bollocks PRS and would like to get a vlave-powered orange for more vitamin crunch

>4 years in total, only started properly learning theory and the likes for about a year and a half. (before then it was noodling and self discovery, with a few lessons from my old man) However I also got to grade 5 on drums and grade 3 on bass before stopping both. Just wasn't for me.

>vox sdc33 because its the only gibson Sg-esque guitar Ive played that doesnt have a super chubby neck, shame the PUPs suck farts on it though. All time favourite would be this Les Paul that was in a local guitar shop a year back and I wish I had bought it or at least taken down its name because it sounded worlds better than your average LP, the thign had magic in its bones. As far as shapes go though, cant beat the double cutaway.

>Joe satriani for high gain silliness, Albert king for soul shattering bends and Angus Young for simplistic song mastery. I also like antoine dufour, I can listen to him noodle on his acoustic for hours.

>I have destroyed a jackson js30ke, it was my first guitar and I grew to hate it, it was just too point for my taste and the fact it was coated in half a mile of black lacquer pissed me off, so its being stripped down and hopefully I can make it sing. I can also post my concept sketches of what im aiming for if anyone is interested. As far as hardware goes, im going to slam some SDs in it
>>
>>60964673
Put a singlecoil spaced humbucker in the bridge and use that for the heavy high gain stuff and flip to a single coil in the neck posish for your clean sections. idk
>>
>>60964673
Use two single-sized humbuckers, and use a 5-way switch so you can have coil splitting.

I actually had a question for those of you who have coated your own guitars, i did intend on using dye but the more I think about it, the more sure I am that I don't want to see the wood grain coming through seeing as you can clearly see the split isnt symetrical and looks kinda aids, but would it be possible to still achieve picture's colour effects using other paints?
>>
>>60961663
Is that a Thunderhorse Explorer?
>>
>>60962989
That's because a majority of drop anything players just use the 5th interval to not have to hold an actual power chord.
>>
>>60961663
>heavily modded
>changed bridge pickup
>>
>>60965291
Yeah, you can take a gun, the bigger the better, put it against your temple, and pull the trigger. Your brain matter should get the desired color effect.

has anyone ever heard or played a Fender Esprit?
I know its got a Robben Ford edition. A deal with a music store clerk came in recently for one of these, at 800$. Is it worth it?

pic related: it's exactly the same model and finish

Is the Jackson kelly the only 25.5" scale production explorer style guitar?

Should i upgrade from my ibanez 15W amp to a marshall dsl15c? I'm a bedroom player so I don't need too much power, I only want some sweet valve sound that'll last some good years.

I also want to upgrade my gio Ibanez' bridge pup to a dimarzio x2n, but I think the amps more important now. Hell, maybe I'll just buy a new guitar altogether after the amp.

What do you think?
>>
>>60965776
right, I'll keep that in mind, thanks

Anyone with any genuine advice on belnding colours on a finish without layering the guitar in 5mm of paint?

Hey all - I'm using the Elevenrack, and I feel it is subpar. I also have a Crate Paolomino which is decent too.

I want to get an AxeFX (II) or simulator, what are your thoughts or opinions? I'm using primarily a digital setup anyway.
>>
>>60966140
Ive got one and they dont really make a vlave tone, anon. They are, however, incredible little amplifiers.
>>60966045
Provided you dont have to fund a new guitar with your current one, then you can never have too many guitars.
In all seriousness though I would maybe look at the tiny terror, from what I've seen it doesn't have to be turned up loud to sound good.
>>
>>60966045
Better invest in new stuff, it will pay off much more in the long term.
>>
>>60966045

I saw that in a store and I'd never think it was a combo. Pretty interesting and seems to have a lot of features.

>>60966198
The tiny terror's a head, right? I'm looking for a combo.

>>60966218
You mean I should buy a new guitar instead upgrading the pup? Either way I'd still use a x2n.

>>60966227
I don't know if giving a budget would be of any use as I live in BRland. But I don't want to spend more than the marshall DSL15C.
>>
>>60962076
Your first step is to stop using A# as your key centre. It would be Bb

Ebmaj - Gm - Bbmaj - Fmaj

Everyone praises this amp so much and I have no idea why. My sister got it for me last Christmas. Every amp model sucks on it except the clean one. It comes with Cubase 'cheapass edition' but after a month or 20 exports you can't even export your recordings. Plus a lot of these come with defective power supplies, like mine did so you'll either have to ask for a replacement or fix it yourself somehow. I couldn't replace it so my electrician friend made this crazy thing (the one with the blue LED on top) for me, which is like a noise gate for the PU or something.

thats not a THR5
>>
>>60966832
THR5 and THR10 are basically the same, THR10 just has 2 more knobs on it for guitar and AUX volume. The amplifiers in them are identical.
>>
>>60966810
That's more expensive than a DSL40C here, wow. I think I'll stay with one of the Marshalls.

But still, would that keep me busy?
>>
>>60966832
>>60966859
...well I made a mistake, it seems THR10 has presets and can take acoustic and bass guitars as well. There might be something else I'm missing. Nonetheless, the guitar amp models are identical and I think they offer nothing more than an average affordable modeling amp would. The clean is really good though and I'm quite fortunate cause it's all that I need.

>>60965291
Yes, but you'll want it done by an experienced painter.

>>
>>60967301

>>60967301
very good for 5 months

just a few timing and muting mistakes here and there but more right than wrong overall

keep it up
>>
>>60967330
I know, but even if I bought a new amp to last, then a decent guitar, I'd still want to put a x2n in there. I won't buy a new guitar plus a x2n because my amp is still shit.
>>
>>60967371
Oh, yeah, there were definitely some timing issues. I'm really tweaking out on caffeine because finals right now and that really is fucking my rhythm up a lot
I definitely need to work on the muting though, my biggest issue now is accidental muting
Thanks though! I have no plans of stopping, guitar is a hell of a lot of fun
