Post-rock
What is it?
Who's good at it?
Where did it go?
>>

>>
>>60955187

The wide-angle lens shot of that guy banging on that kick drum with a mallet makes me really fucking uncomfortable every time and I can't say why
>>
I like This Will Destroy You
>>
I've been listening to post-rock for years and have built up a pretty good collection. Some of my favorites:
Explosions in the sky
This will destroy you
Pg. Lost
Yndi Halda
God is an astronaut
Codes in the clouds
If these trees could talk
The american dollar
Saxon shore
Maybeshewill
Evpatoria report.
I know explosions, this will destroy you, and yndi halda are still making music. I would imagine a lot of the others are too.

Are there any modern bands in post rock or otherwise that have the experimental, innovative approach of the early stuff? I love bands like Macha, Disco Inferno, Bugskull, The Sea and Cake, Cul de Sac, etc but post rock lost me when everyone started taking themselves so seriously and sounding the same.

*Shels
Mamiffer
Mutyumu if 2008 counts (although they're a bit proggy)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNSza0QZIcY
>>
what do you guys think of a band called sigur ros
>>
Johnnytwentythree are great and almost always overlooked.

William Ryan Fritches album Leave Me Like You Found Me is a fantastic and different post-rock album.

Vessels album Helioscope is a super energetic and engaging take on post-rock.

*shels and Blueneck are good too and haven't been mentioned yet.
>>
>>60955187
Sigur Ros turned the concept of post rock into something even better.

I mentioned *shels
I love Fritches work with pic-related
and have been meaning to get into him
You think I should start with that one?
>>
>>60956711
If yo like Ensemble, probably so. He has a pretty big discography, none of which I would say is not enjoyable. Check out LMLYFM, Heavy, A Hounds Heart, and Music For Honey and Bile.

Music For Film Vol. 1, Revisionist, and Emptied Animal after if you like those.
>>
>>60956659
Thanks for the recs. *Shels are decent but a bit too anthemic for me. Mamiffer seems pretty cool; the bit I heard reminded me a little of Nadja. Mutyumu isn't really my thing; seems a bit too polished.
>>
There are times when you could call Locrian post-rock... sort of.

You should just listen to them anyway.

>>60956777
And the collab they did with Mamiffer is awesome.
>>
>>60956777
sorry i couldn't be more help
I'm goin' through more 1st wave too
maybe something like this? more experimental jazz though

That's hilarious; I linked someone to that just a few weeks ago. I do for sure like it. And I appreciate all recs, really. Don't be sorry.

Friendly reminder that only two thirds of Spiderland is Post Rock, one third is math rock, and another third (mixed between the math rock and post rock) is post hardcore.

What's the general consensus of Macha here? and would it be considered post-rock?
