Does anyone like playing on a semi hollow body? I'm thinking of getting one.

semi hollows are great. full hollows are good too but feedback easier. Could be useful depending on what you are going for
semi hollows are fucking awesome

Nice. Was convinced already. You guys sealed the deal.
Probably going to get an Ivory Ibanez Artcore. It is used in perfect condition for 400, normally would be 600. Absolutely beautiful guitar. It is OP pic.

I have a Gretsch 5420. Before that I had a Epiphone Dot.
And danang me, do I like the Gretsch way better. Probably never getting another hollowbody unless I upgrade to another gretch hollowbody (or maybe the 6120)
My advice for hollowbodies and semi-hollows are to definitely try out all kinds. I never could really appreciate the Ibanez ones, I never figured out why.
The Loar is good
So is Godin 5th avenue
Know that you're not going to be able to play as high up as, say, a strat. More work is needed on re-stringing and tuning with a floating bridge and tremelo bar, but the floating bridge really lets you fine tune it.
See, with a strat or something, you're tuning in only one direction-tension
A floating bridge, you're tuning in tension, bridge location and bridge height. Be prepared for more work, but it's worth it.
You're going to have a harder time with effects because of feedback, though, so no Green Day or Dethklok or whatever. I pretty much stick with some light reverb, a looper and digitech whammy. And maybe a smidge of distortion if I'm doing rockabilly or psychobilly.

gotcha. glad you made that distinction. I'm not one to play at gigs, just play around the house and with friends, so I'm not worried about playing it really loud. What semi hollows would you recommend in the <700 price range

I have an Epiphone Dot. The stock tuners and pickups are average but I love the guitar. It's so chimey and dynamic. Highly recommend going for it if you're interested.
Nothing comfier than plugging into my Vox AC30 with a reverb and phaser and playing shoegaze and post rock on rainy afternoons...
