Let's get a Prog Rock general going. What have you guys been listening to lately? I've been listening to Genesis a lot recently and also some Art Zoyd. Peter Gabriel is such a fantastic vocalist.
Haven't listened to all the albums I've wanted to get to this year, but pic related will probably be my prog AOTY
>>60953938
That album is fantastic, I'm amazed they managed to put 2 hours worth of music with little filler
Have you heard new Caligula's Horse?
>>60953938
Also here is a chart for significant 2015 prog releases
It's outdated and misses some stuff like Thy Catafalque though
>>60953989
Haven't listened to that one yet. How is it?
>>60954063
It's great, but more straightforward
Also same singer as Arcane
hatfield and the north ftw
>>60954096
The guy's got a good pair of lungs on him. If so, it'll probably be my next listen.
>>60954017
maybe I just need to give it more listens, but the new Dear Hunter album was a slight let-down personally. I did love King of Swords though
>>60953761
hello fello Genifriend, what's your current favorite genesis album?
mine's pic related
>>60954444
Foxtrot > Selling England > Lamb > Nursery Cryme imo
Cool numbers
Just going ahead and posting a classic
>>60954493
oh shit, I didn't even notice those
I don't really understand why Selling England gets so much love, besides firth of fifth, cinema show, and moonlit knight I feel like it's kinda meh
>>60954645
Battle Of Epping Forest is perfect eclectic prog and I really love the closing track Aisle of Plenty
>>60954529
Trilogy is better
Friendly reminder
>>60955005
>all that third-rate prog
>>60955021
better albums could've been picked for the right side, yeah
>>60955021
define third-rate
This is my aoty, despite being released last December. I didn't know about it till January.
>>60955005
Lol . I love those goofy ass charts that people take all serious.
>>60953989
I could not get into Caligulas horse. Maybe I should tray a different album?
>>60955591
Top prog albums (Foxtrot, TDSOTM, ITCOTCK) are first-rate.
Very strong, but not quite peak prog albums (The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, Animals, Larks' Tongues in Aspic) are second-rate.
Kansas is third-rate.
>>60955823
thats fair enough
>>60954444
>>60954493
>>60954645
>>60954901
best genesis affiliated album coming through
Been listening to Pink Floyd alot again lately. Going through their back catalog and man I love Atom Heart Mother. Fantastic album.
Favorite Camel album?
On par with the original t b h
>>60955946
The Snow Goose desu senpai
Is there any older prog that reminds you of Slint?
I'm a prog noob.
>>60953761
I'm going to see King Crimson in Japan live in less than 2 weeks.
What should I do? Listening recs? What stuff should I buy from the concert?
>>60956002
>modern KC
If you've listened to any KC before you might be disappointed
the only good members in it are tony levin and robert fripp right now, and for whatever reason fripp hates playing their oldies
>>60956033
I've heard all of their stuff right up to Discipline, haven't heard Beat yet.
Apparently in their recent tour they've been playing a lot of classics from their catalog.
>>60954017
>that Beardfish album
What the fuck? Why is this so boring. It almost doesn't even feel like prog rock.
>>60954017
Doesn't have my favourite.
I've been listening to a lot of pieces by King Crimson, Some solo works by Steven Hacket, and some stuff by Yes.
I've also been trying to get into some stuff by Camel.
>>60956231
What Camel albums?
>>60956284
I've been trying to get through Mirages but I have not been giving it my full attention.
I also listened to some of The Snow Goose.
>>60956347
I suggest listening to all of Mirage since its rather accessible but still pretty great. Listen to that first to ease into Snow Goose
>>60956357
Ya I did find Snow Goose a little hard to get through. I guess I haven't gotten into their style as I've done with Genesis and Yes.
>>60956376
The song Nimrodel off Mirage pretty much lead to the creation of Snow Goose due to it being one of their bigger songs.
>>60955370
there needs to be semiramis on the right just so the squidward face is always there judging you
>>60955823
Larks' is better that ITCOTCK by a decent margin
These guys are the closest thing to modern Pink Floyd
They are called Airbag
New album when
DEFEND NEO-PROG
>>60953761
Just want to say close to the edge is one of my all time favorite albums. I. Need. It.
>>60955987
1973-1974s King Crimson
>>60956033
Uh, Gavin Harrison? Pat Mastelloto? Mell Collins? Those are all great musicians
>>60956033
You're full of shit
>>60958938
this
Just listened to Albert Marcoeur's Album A Colorier. Only liked two songs from the album, but liked those a lot.
Also, friendly reminder that King Crimson played Heavy Metal before Black Sabbath did.
>>60955987
King Crimson - Red
>>60955823
Larks Tongues is Top Tier
>>60959285
You mean metal as a whole or traditional metal? Cause I really wouldnt consider anything off of In The Court to be metal at all. Meanwhile, the Black Sabbath debut featured straight up Doom Metal
>>60959315
King Crimson never had a metal album, but they had a few Heavy Metal songs (the style of music we all know about).
Now that you mention Doom Metal, it reminded me of this band called Clear Light who had this song called Street Singer which is a pretty good example of Doom Metal being played in 1967. Too bad all their other stuff is average psych rock.
Just listened to this after finding it in a share thread, it's supposed to be a cult classic and I definitely like it despite being too poppy at times
>>60956782
Probably 2017 desu
Best Tull album coming through
>>60954529
my nigga desu
>>60959810
>not minstrel in the gallery
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJsOyRa3rKg
now this is a hidden gem from rich Yugoslavian rock scene. You may have heard of this dead country, made shitload of music back then. But this album is some tight prog shit bruh
>>60953761
Genesis
Trespass - Duke = God-tier
>>60954131
Mah niggr
>>60954444
Selling England By The Pound
Wind and Wuthering is 2nd
>>60955946
Usually I say Moonmadness, but lately I've been digging Rain Dances A LOT
Does anyone fusion?
>pic related
Never seen this thrown about, but I think it's stellar
It's too good
>>60961042
I like fusion. In A Silent Way and Light As A Feather are two particular favorites
>>60961345
Spain is one of my favorite standards of all time

>>60961318
The Irish Folk influences are so fucking tasty, honestly a must listen if you've got a little free time
