Doesn't help with individual songs but if you really think English Settlement is too long why don't you try the US release? They cut it down to a single LP rather than a double album. I don't like it but you might prefer it.

It's a shame I don't have ant money to spend on records anymore, I need to get more UK XTC pressings, pretty much across the board they're better than US pressings in one way or another.
Luckily I've got already got a UK pressing of English Settlement, as thats the one that's really gimped in the US. Drums & Wires and the 45's are UK as well...
