Hey, /mu/. Let's have a thread about noise rock. I know some bands but haven't ever really delved deeply into it. What should I listen to if I haven't already? Also, what blogs or other online publications should I be following if I want to know about upcoming noise rock albums?

And what are some of the best releases so far this year? Pic related and Fetch are the last two albums of the genre I know about.
>>
What is boris' noisiest release?
>inb4 noise
>>
>>60932025
Maybe Heavy Rocks? I haven't listened to 04092001 yet but I imagine it's pretty noisy since it has Merzbow on it.
>>
>>60932154
No idea why I said Heavy Rocks. I meant Amplifier Worship.
>>
Anyone else gonna see Melt Banana on tour with The Melvins and Napalm death?

>>60932025
Warpath, Asia, and Urban Dance are all pretty noisy.
>>
>>60932351
>Anyone else gonna see Melt Banana on tour with The Melvins and Napalm death?
If I did that, I would never be able to tell my future children that their birth was the happiest day of my life.

The only acceptable noise rock is Sonic Youth, Les Rallizes Denudes, some of Dinosaur Jr, Air Conditioning and probably some of Keiji Haino.

All the rest of noise rock falls under other categories and is barely "rock".

>Post-Hardcore
Albini-core, Unwound, Fugazi, Flipper, Scratch Acid
>Noisecore
Daughters, Car Bomb, Gay Beast
>No Wave/Avant-Prog/just Experimental
Arab on Radar, Six Finger Satellite, Harry Pussy
>Lo-fi/Garage Punk
Wavves, Guitar Wolf, Acid Eater

why is noise rock so close to other genres than to alternative rock itself?
>>
>>60932434
Where does Melt-Banana fall?
>>
>>60932484
Noisecore probably?

I had an argument with a guy some months ago about the same thing. But, even so, it's clear that it's very deviated from alternative rock/rock in general.
>>
>>60932536
So what? Noise rock has a lot of subgenres now. That's fine. It's like complaining about metal not all sounding like Sabbath.
>>
Blind Idiot God is noise rock, right?

>>
>>60932553
>now
since the start, when post-hardcore acts began using noise elements in their music, people began labeling them as noise rock

where is the noise rock that really, uh, you know, rocks? i don't want to hear the same sludgy noisy sound over and over again, nor grindcore/powerviolence with a little bit of feedback
>>
>>60932586
Where's the noise?
>>60932625
What do you think of this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=df5kId_eqso
>>
>>60932351
I want to, I saw MB on their last tour.
>>
>>60932725
Pretty good, will check the band, but
1) Where's the noise? (the feedback bit at the intro doesn't count)
2) Post-Hardcore

I'm trying to get more stuff like Sonic Youth or Dinosaur Jr, more of that "90s alternative" feeling.
>>
>>60932844
whoops forgot to say that Weed is also a great
"noise alternative rock" band. '90s revival band probably? They released a great album this year
>>
You all know Monks?

I can't fucking believe this album came out in '66.
>>

Yeah. Now to mentally prepare for it.

In case you havent already, listen to YLT--Start with May I Sing with Me, then skip Fakebook if you only want noise rock (it's real good though), and then Painful/ElectroPura/ICHTHBAO will get you where you need to go.
Otherwise, listen to A Place to Bury Strangers' s/t, Ken Mode, and early Sonic Youth if you haven't already

Iceage, future of the left/mclusky and Big Ups are some of my favourite bands that are at least partially noise rock.
Melt-Banana is good too but the vocals get tiring after a while.
I also like the Jesus Lizard
>>
Health if you think you'd like the more dancey side of that spectrum.
>>
>>60937751
Big Ups is a lot of fun too.

I know I know, SY didn't invent noise rock. There were a lot of japanese acts from the '80s that were doing noisier rock as well, but, they weren't really, you know, ROCK.

>VU
They have like 4 or 5 god-tier noise rock tracks.
>MC5
why did I drop that album after the second track, nice
>The Deviants
Yeah, proto-noise.
>The Spoils of War
can't really hear the noise t b h, besides that EEEEE, experimental =/= noise
>Les Rallizes Denudes
already mentioned them
>Electric Eels
lo-fi =/= noise
>Mirrors
experimental =/= noise
>Faust
one of the only essential krautrock bands I haven't heard yet
>The Residents
haven't heard them yet
>The Birthday Party
nah

>>60943907
this is another kind of acceptable noise rock
