What is the best album of the last 5 years?
>>60922495
None of those, that's for sure.
>>60922495
pic unrelated
Probably MBDTF
paralytic stalks
>>60922495
doesnt really matter about the best imo but its interesting to think about whats might be accepted as classics in 5+ years. gkmc, twisted fantasy, and channel orange spring to mind right away, though those basically already are talked about as classics. whereas deerhunter for instance wont cos of their smaller reach and their lesser cultural relevance
what else do you think? I dont mean our faves, but stuff thats gonna make the next 1000 albums to hear before you die sort of thing
CARRIE
AND
LOWELL
>>60922495
pic not related for sure, but
why you have saved this picture?
>>60922532
no
lmao
>>60922635
p accurate for meme albums
>>60922506
literally my thought as i opened this thread
word for word
sempai are you me?
>>60922650
you have really bad taste in music
One of these.
Jai Paul s/t desu
>>60922495
those 4 wouldn't even make the top 500. the beach house album might make the top 1000 though
>>60922688
whats your criteria though? who decides this list? or is it just your faves?
>>60922673
that julia holter album is one of the greatest albums of all time
>>60922688
dark fantasy and madd ciy make top 200 on rym
[Horse Sounds]
>>60922613
yes.
>>60922736
everything swans released after the 90s is derivative and heavily overrated
>>60922495
MBDTF, objectively.
>>60922564
Salient comment. Channel Orange is a much bigger contender than /mu/ discussions seem to notice
>>60922801
Channel Orange has some of the blandest music I've ever heard.
>>60922635
Say what you will about the RYM kids, at least they realize that The Seer is the superior album unlike you people
>>60922775
So, band died sometime in 90s. Old swans is shit imo, but new stuff is incredible. Bring The Sun/Toussaint L'Ouverturestill my favourite song
>>60922710
my faves
>>60922718
most rym users are normies
>>60922812
Maybe, but it touched millions, had a big influence on basically all the male r&b artists that came after it, critical explosion, big cultural importance in having a black gay icon that was as hip as frank was at the time. its clearly a landmark however you look at it
>>60922841
Surely "normies" are the ones who define this sort of thing though? It doesnt really mean much to say some nerds fave noise project is the "best album of the decade"
My favourite of the last 5 years has been Deepchord Presents Echospace - Liumin
>>60922889
there is no best album of the decade. just each person's favorite. most people would probably say 21 by adele. that doesn't make it good
>>60922948
thats just such a lazy and oversimplified view of music though. obviously ~ppl have different tastes~ but that doesnt mean we cant try and sketch out what albums were most important to the wider culture, what meant the most to the most amount of ppl and why, what kind of cultural zeitgeists it was playing into at the time and what it reveals about the culture. i dont think youre right about 21 being the obvious choice, especially with the overexposure and the amy winehouse renaissance i think she's getting re-evaluated a lot now by the majority but 21 is still surely an important album, and it does reveal a lot about the culture and was important to a lot of ppl. rolling in the deep isnt worthless or not worth talking about just cos u happen to have some contempt for what you imagine the normal persons taste to be
>>60923071
On that note, Back to Black is definitely a classic by this point. though thats 10 years gone
some dudes are obcessed with the hunting for the completely perfect all-critics-approved-masterpiece 11/10 album
>>60922948
Most people saying 21 by Adele is exactly what tells us it's good actually bub. Sorry to break your fantasy
>>60923116
Also nice.
>>60923144
but mbdtf is already a thing
>>60923162
No. You're a black dude right? So for you this is the best album of all time.
>>60923144
its a weird one seeing as most ppl agree by now music critics are just talking pure shit. comparing it to like film and literary theory is just embarrassing. though the academic music theory of classical music isnt really that useful either. Trust the ppl imo
>>60923187
i'm white.
>>60923187
black population of about 70mil. hardly insignificant album if thats your criteria
>>60922824
swans a shit
>>60922495
Of those four?
Teen Dream or GKMC. GKMC only because it's a little more re-playable.
not the best album but my favorite within the past 5 years
>>60923233
You shit dude
>>60923147
>a living person thinks this
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
>>60923071

Time Machines II is still my AOTD.
>>60923274

>>60923326

Pic related,

and GkMC.
>>60923274
i wouldn't consider this the best by any means, but it's certainly underrated.
>>60922506
same thoughts as me word for word too
>>60922673
scrap Black Messiah, Ark Work, Universal Themes, mbv and we're good.
>>60922495
Any album he made in the last 5 years
>>60922751

The Seer is a contender

>>60926664
You realize you people going around saying that you're a drone for liking the album, are the ACTUAL DRONES
>>60926685
>The Suburbs, The Seer, Like Clockwork, To Be Kind, To Pimp A Butterfly
>not a drone
