P4K hasn't had critical credibility since 2012, when they gave AnCo's 2nd best album something less than a 9.5.

Anything that they praised that's on that list is pure coincidence.

>It's either that or you haven't explored much.

It's the latter. I know what i like at this point, most of what i've heard this year are by artists that i already like and would've checked out their albums anyway.

Although there are gonna be a handful of albums on my top 50 that i never would've expected to be on there. (Grimes, Joanna Newsom, A$AP Rocky)

I just do more of the former, every album I've listened to that wasn't discussed here was pretty bad. Except maybe Such Things, and In Colour, which was discussed here a lot and still bad. Pop ones were decent though, with the exception of Miley it was a decent year for pop.

Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, ...And You Will Know the By the Trail of Dead (yeah they got a 10 from p4k, but they also got fucking slammed on their follow up), Wilco, Radiohead (prove me wrong, all they did was take shit from other genres and put it together), Slint (also prove me wrong, Pixies was doing the whole loud/quiet thing like 3 years before them), Nirvana...
>>
>>60921714
>it's another Boldfaure shitposting thread

Reminder OP thinks Liturgy is AOTY
>>
>>60922657
Haven't listened to what? MPP and Person Pitch? I love both of those records.

Person Pitch always came across as retro to me.

Person Pitch = drugged-out haze
MPP = tribal dance party
Meets the Grim Reaper = synthy alien journey

All have different aesthetics and feels. I'm not sure how you can say PBMTGR is redundant beyond Panda's signature vocals.
>>
>>60922666
Bob Dylan was incredibly innovative along with Cash in bringing rock to the white population.
Wilco was a fusion of indie rock and country.
Radiohead did do that fusion stuff.
Slint isn't famous for loud/quiet, they're famous for the sort of meditative yet still rhythmically varying loops that they set the poetry to.

Are we going to say Monteverdi is not innovative because he just took that shit from the Greeks? Come on man.

>1. Days with Dr. Yen Lo

Won't be my AOTY, but great pick. This needs more hype, although i can understand why it flew under the radar.

>3. To Pimp a Butterfly
>5. Mutant

2 of my bigger disappointments of the year, honestly. I still like TPAB, but it should've been better. Mutant gets borderline-unlistenable at times though.
>>
>>60922795
not the same guy, but that opinion is a first for me
>>
>>60922853
Mutant probably works for me cause I don't typically listen to that kinda thing, so it's very new and it has some really cool sounds on it.
Pimp a Butterfly is just a super well put together project by a very talented dude.
Glad to see other people digging Yen Lo. I don't really dig the "aoty" label but I put it as #1 because it's what I see myself revisiting the most in the future. I can see it becoming a classic in the underground rap circles.
>>
>>60922843

I like music off both charts, but both are made without an ounce of exploration made on the part of the creator. OPs is just standard indie/p4k hype while the "patrician-core" chart is all the approved non-p4k hyped albums. There is obviously very little thought or personal opinion put into either one, both are entirely image-based.
